Right, at the moment I have my pop3 email set up through Blueyonder using one of their dial up servers. It works perfectly fine

Is there I can set it up using GPRS so I only get charge per KB and not for the call ?

Its always helpful to mention your mobile provider but lets assume its vodafone.

If you have not got a GPRS data account setup then go to www.vodafone.com and where it says "how do I" just choose "configure my phone" and they will send an SMS to set it all up.

In the email client change the "connect using" to use the data account setup for GPRS internet access (APN = internet for vodafone), NOT the data account set up for WAP.

The pop3 server will remain the same but you will need to change the SMTP server to www.vizzavi.co.uk as ost ISP will not allow email to be sent out through their servers if you are not connected to them.

thats about it!

obviously if you are not on vodafone you will need to find out the smtp server to use for your GPRS provider.

Not to worry I've checked my bill online and it seems I am not gettting charged for the calls I make to my Pop3 server. Well I am charged but its apart of my free mins. I thought it would be the same service as WAP on T-Mobile which I would be charged for.

I got these settings (from somewhere on Esato if I remember correctly) and they seem to work fine, using GPRS to send and receive emails using my Blueyonder account);

For UK Telewest broadband users:>>>

If you get/have gprs, you can usually get away with keeping your existing gprs data account by adding new e-mail accounts to connect via that profile - if not set-up a copy data account & name it something else.

then goto messages >> email the edit add new account:

connect using - blueyonder grps data account (or whatever data account you want - useaully needs an internet APN - a wap APN won't work >>
protocol - pop3 >>
inc server - pop3.blueyonder.co.uk >>
port - 110 >>
mailbox - my mail user name >>
password - my mail password >>
outgoing server - smtp.blueyonder.co.uk >>
port - 25 >>
address - me/you/us/them@blueyonder.co.uk >>
download - headers only or both >>
from name - thats easy >>
no signature >>
copy outgoing - nope >>
check interval - I have this switch off - or T68 will dial/connect every now & then & my network charge me for the pleasure.

BUT...The other thing with blueyonder is you have mailboxes, & profiles with-in these mail boxes - you will need to set-up a new mailbox & add a new profile solely for mobile pop3 use - the T68 wont download e-mails if you have say 2 or 3 aliases under the same mailbox

Plus it only seems to connect to the server if you have any new e-mails? Thats what Ive found so far anyway - their help pages aren't to brilliant. If I find out more or anything is wrong I'll be back to edit the post

I'm not claiming credit for these - I found them, on this site I think. Just thought they might be useful to someone out there!

Well I had a look at the setup for the GPRS and the only thing missing is the APN. So how the hell does the phone know where to get these messages if I can't use a phone number to dial into. If its APN I need where do I get the details for that?

You need to get a data APN which should be available from your providers website. Otherwise you can always call them up ask them for the data GPRS settings.

Best thing to do is use the sony ericsson configurator on the website, it sends you two messages and once done mine worked straight away. Better than messing with the settings yourself only to find "Finding Server" displayed forever and a day.

Agreed, does seem a bit silly, more so on these 4-6 week old threads that have long since been forgotten. I just assumed he was going to find all old threads relating to email config and apply the same! and was just sitting here laughing!

Its nice to have enthusiastic helpful members but...
