This is for anybody thinking about getting a T610 but feeling a bit apprehensive after reading all about it's "bad points".
I just upgraded my T68i to a T610 on Vodafone. They gave it to me for 29.99 (incl 50 quid cash back) which I thought was a bargain.
Anyway, read this forum avidly and heard all the moans about it which started to make me think twice. However, I stuck to my guns and got the phone and I thought I'd say that it is a
brilliant phone and if you're thinking of doing the upgrade then go for it!!
Firstly, I think I'm lucky enough to get a non-hissing phone (i think - all mobile phone calls hiss!)... it's a week 22 model. Voda guarunteed that all their stock was now hiss free (for upgrades over the phone that is).
Having used the phone for a while now I have found that I can live with the customisations. It is ridiculous having 4 ways to get to Live! but, well, just don't click on them! By applying another theme you lose most of the Voda "look".
Also, the Voda Live! soft key replaces one of the SE original menus which I gather contains useful functions. I gathered from what I read that these were things like silent mode and key lock and therefore on the Voda version these were difficult to set. They are not. You simply press "c" and then "*" and the phone is locked. Pressing "c" and joystick click will put the phone in silent mode. Easy!
Some people have complained about the fading start to ringtones in order to "protect your hearing". A lot of phones do this, and it only takes a second max to get to full volume. It also sounds quite good! So, not a problem!
I read somewhere on here that the camera takes 1 second between pressing the button to taking the photo. Actually it doesn't. It takes the picture instantly but takes about a second or so to process it before displaying the send, save, discard options. No problem here!
True, the screen is fairly unreadable outside but then this is the nature of the type of screen used and all other phones with similar screens (ie T68!) suffer from the same problem. Not a problem!
The biggest gripe, which is still liveable with, is that the screen and black casing easily gets mucky/greasy with finger prints etc... These can be wiped off but it's a bit of a pain. However I think this will be less and less of a pain when the novelty has worn off.
Oh, and getting used to the "back" key!!!
I can see why the phone is not 110% ideal if you're buying it outright for example, but if you're upgrading/buying new for under the 100 pound mark there is no reason not to go for it in my opinion! It's an excellent step up from the T68 and better than most (if not all) of the other phones on the market. Again, in my opinion

i think the fone is amazin too and dont find anythin about it too irritating (apart from the fact that i cant use it in the sun, but as i live in the uk this isnt much of a problem

With regard to the more / c key issue - yes you can do keypad lock and silent with the c key but you can't turn bluetooth/ir on/off like you can with the more key and doing those with a Voda Live! handset involves a lot more fannying about in the menus which can be a real pain. It was the plain stupidity of replacing the more key which got to me when there is a perfectly good button that performs exactly the same function on the side of the phone - why loose the useful functionality for duplicating another key?!

they had better release firmware that rights all these wrongs - this is not on, same phone but so many different versions/variances....
its still gorgeous though, but I cant forgive much more of this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i agree that the T610 is a good phone i just got mine. Mine is on t mobile so i have all the menus intact as for the screen getting smudged i got a handy wipe with the phone

I totally agree.. I have been using the phone for a week now.. still really glad I had it..
and yes.. about this so-called shortcomings of the phone.. I can live with them..
Mine is also the R1A.. but no problem for taking instant photos.. just that it takes a few secs to process and 'refine' the pic on the screen. what was shown is exactly wat was taken that moment..

On my t68i, the number 1 thing that pisses me off about the phone is method for sending text messages.
After composing a message you have to press 'Yes', left, 'Yes' just to get to the phone book. I heard someone say that in the 610 i t was a lot quicker. Can you confirm this?
