Eeevening!

So...I recently went out and purchased a Samsung v200. It's damn sexy but sadly has a few crucial faults in areas I use most, namely:

* No custom word addition in t9 dictionary
* No downloadable games and rubbish inbuilt ones (a horrible Erix clone)
* No speed dials (due to purchase on PAYG)

I saw an offer in a Sky magazine where the p800 was for sale for £500, payable in 10 monthly payments, which is great! I can now afford a p800.

However, as this is mail order I'm sure there will be some convoluted returns policy involved so I am trying to find out as much as possible about the p800. I've drooled over the page for long enough but the thing that I would most like to know about are the faults in the p800 - you guys are the best people to ask.

At this point I'm not looking for justification, (ie "It doesn't do BECAUSE...") I just want to know what it most noticably doesn't do that a user might expect it to.

One example of this would be the (apparent) lack of T9. I realise that's not a problem so much due to handwriting recognition but I am looking for some more things like that. Please reply to this with them so I can make an unbiased decision - the v200 is great but at the moment it seems I will have to make too many sacrifices to keep it.

One things for sure - Bluetooth functionality is lacking somewhat - buggy mainly, although reading the forum this evening, it apparently doesn't support certain protocols - namely BT's Handsfree profile - should you ever come across it. Apart from that, I love the phone. Does everything I want and more. I especially like the fact that it runs old arcade games with EMAME.

Something that annoyed me was that I was used to have a txt report so i knew when my txt's had been recieved and read... however the P800 doesn't (well didn't have this)

The newer versions do but if you get one and it doesn't then a simple firmware upgrade is all it takes.

Im still surprised it was left out in the first place.

Nahh...

The magazine offer is for £50 x 10 month payments it's the only way I'm going to afford a p800. I don't want a contract with it and I can't really afford a large lump sum to start with.

I can't really sell the Samsung to contribute - I'd have to put the first £180 back on my Mastercard to recoup what I had lost and then I probably wouldn't have much left...this seems the easiest way to get one.

You are aware that you can use a network prefix code to get a sms report.

I have no problems with Bluetooth on my 6 month old p800, it takes a while to find all the stuff (Because of the varied flip on, flip off, flip open modes) but its all there, i find sms writing no problem, same as when i input a website address i use the "Virtual keyboard" NOT handwriting input as that is slow, "Virtual keyboard" is FASTER than T9 because its one tap per charactor.
I have been VERY happy with my p800 (no crashing) for 6 months, if you hear of something missing best check again because often people havn't looked hard enough.
The only real drawback is if you only have one hand, also many people complain that because t9 is not on the flip buttons it means no sms writing while driving, well great because holding a mobile in use in a car is being made ilegal in UK.

I'm left with a difficult decision now...a p800 that seems to be everything I believed it to be (including being £500) or a much cheaper Samsung v200 that has a few major holes.

I don't think after mucking about with this Samsung I can go back to my t300...just not the same

Jalu - unsure, most likely broke soon

Well i don't know if your an obsessive "Note writer" like me but to be able to just write little notes to yourself on the screen (in a range of colours) & close the flip & hey presto its saved, is so handy, or having 10 different wav files for different reminders playing anything from film sound bites to whole records, stuff like that really make it the best thing available, surprised you can't find a better deal though, like a contract with low upfront payment you can buy one on & just use your sim, i think Voda p800's are unlocked from standard.

why dont you stick with your v200 for a month or two.. im sure that the number of p800's on ebay will increase pretty soon... what with this p810 rumour lurking around this forum...
