I've noticed that the speech quality of the received audio on my T610 is pretty poor. The same headset is very good when using my T68 so I don't think it is anything to do with the headset.

The audio sounds like there is clipping occurring during the CVSD encoding process on the T610, hence I get gritty, popping speech which is noticeably less so when the audio level of the person at the other end is reduced by them speaking more quietly.

So, is this likely to be fixed using a software update or should I be getting a replacement phone? It has been to Celestica for the hissing audio fix and that has mostly reduced the hiss to an acceptable level. The original hardware rev was R2A, it is now R2E.

I'm not certain that I can live with this for ever, it really does affect the use of the phone with Bluetooth audio.

Thoughts people?

I would send it back to them again
or ask to have it replaced with a new handset with R3A hw.
Since they havent been able to fix your problems first time around
(just letting know what I would do I have no idea if it works or not)

Well yes, but that's more grief and inconvenience so I was trying to get some idea of whether other people with supposedly fixed phones are still suffering with the same problem.

I'm really irritated by how long this is taking to fix, I think I might give SE a call today and ask them what can be done. I still have 10 days left of my CPW 28 day phone replacement window.

I'd take it back to CPW while you still have the option of doing so. They should be haning out (at this point) only hiss-free handsets, so there shouldn't be any problem with that. If, when you get a new one, you still find the volume too low, send it off to Celestia.

I imagine, though, that a new handset from CPW should fix the problem...

The Bluetooth headset crackling problems are alreay quite well known, and I haven't heard of a solution for it.

Fingers crossed that the next firmware update will fix the problem.

Yes, but the Sale and Supply of Goods Act means that the 28 day return period does not override my statutory rights so even if I exceed this period I should be able to get it fixed.

I think that a software upgrade is likely to fix this, but there is no real information coming out to suggest that SE are working on this particular problem. I was hoping for a post from someone who also uses a Bluetooth headset and has an R2E 03W19 T610 that has been to Celestica. Then I'd know if it is a generic or specific problem.

I will speak with CPW to find out what hardware rev and build date T610s they are selling now, but it is a bit awkward to insist on testing this in the shop what with the need to swap battery, SIM and pair the HBH-15 before you can tell what the speech quality is like.

I have an HBH10 and no problems (mercifully).

Try another BT headset just to rule out the headset perhaps?

Definitely not the headset, it works perfectly with my T68. I suspect the audio level adjustment is wrong on the Bluetooth audio path in a batch of T610s. This may cause the audio to clip before it goes through the Bluetooth CVSD codec.

I have the same problem, many people do.

It seems like SE concentrated on the hissing headset problem and took no notice of this one. Are they even aware of this?

I received a replacement from T-Mobile because of the hiss but the bluetooth crackling problem was still there.

Do these handsets slip through the testing stage, or are the testers deaf?

from our tests, we too have been having problems with the T610 and bluetooth headsets. I dont think this is a hardware problem, but they should try to get a software update out early.
