Everyone knows that SE gets only 5% of share of the world market... But if you visit the most famous forums like Howardforum, Telefon-Treff, etc. you can see that number of threads about SE are almost in 3rd or even 2nd position behind Nokia. WOW! IT'S NOT BAD AT ALL!!!

Well, logically there is less user of SE mobile-phones than for Nokia or Samsung - and in this case - why guys on internet forums so strongly consider SE???

My opinion is that Sony Ericsson joint-venture profits of a success of regard from many addicts. I think that SE surfs on the wave of Ericsson legendary notoriety - and - gets a lot of benefits from the very good public image of SONY Corp.

But SE gets only 5% of market share while Ericsson was one of the top manufacturers 5-6 years ago. Hmm... where is going SE?

What's your opinion?

Well in my opinion, SE Prices only aim for High-Mid section markets. However, I agree that the potential is much more, as despite the high prices, there is real value for money in SE products. Also, the fact that SE was a late arrival in the market, eg. You ask someone about mobile phones, most people will have a image of a Nokia in their mind, or an ericsson, maybe even a seimens, but very few will have an SE in their mind.

Maybe SE makes phones for us nerds, and we are the ones using these forums. Regular people don't care for the fancy stuff, just want to talk, and don't use these forums to tell us about it.

no doubt se phones has good features, but they must realise that they need a better public image to improve. nokia is doing very nicely in this area, with their slogans for each phone, mass advertising, which all gives nokia users a sense of belonging to the company. se's adverts only concentrates on features alone (ie. the 3 t68i adverts: camera, color display, and picture phonebook), which is unlike nokia's adverts, which entices the audience with catchy themes. like this, the user will be oblivious to the fact that nokia phones sucks in terms of features. in sg, se is advertising the t310 instead of their t610, much to my bewilderment. so i think se needs better marketing.

PS: looking at the upcoming nokia phones (6600, 3560) i infer that nokia's designers have died. so nvm den.

I think that apart from advertising and marketing, the one thing holding back SE is that they release their phones too late. For example, when they released the T68 it was more than 1 year ahead of anything else. It has taken them around 1.5 years to release it successor - and in the meantime the T610's primary competitor (the 7250) is doing very well in the sales charts.

Syd, you mention SE in relation to the T68... I always wondered, did Sony have any ipnut in the original design of the T68 or did the joint venture take the Ericsson designed T68 as a starting point in order to produce the T68i?

Anyway thats a side question, my opinion is that SE is the pocketpc of the mobile phone world and Nokia is the palm. The palm has been around longer than the pocketpc, most have used the palm, like the palm and will mostly buy a palm (or clie or...) the next time. But slowly and surely want to get more from their palm and so get more adventurous and inquisitive and see the great stuff coming out in the pocketpc platform and move to that. Also, as the pocketpc competes better in price so more people turn to it.

So it is with SE and Nokia (and other companies).

We need some more appealing phones. Phones that appeal to more than one set of people. Nokia makes about 4 phones, that do the same thing... they look differet. Thats how they make money.

SE should try this approach.

@baileynash
i don't quite agree because if SE were to produce the same kind of phone but different designs just like nokia, i think the market value for SE phones will drop dramtically just like nokia. i doubt SE wants it this way and so are their supporters/customers. i feel that the current way SE is in the mobile phone market right now is just nice.

so whats the use of all these cool features if se dun put in the effort to advert them? even so, a phone that has good features but physically does not appeal might not be attractive enough. why dun se just merge with nokia? den we get the waaaaaay cool nokia design with all the waaaaaay cool se features
