> T68i new happy user report!
Bookmark topic
The telecom store I work for received a few T68i phones this morning (I warned you Dutch guys in another topic this afternoon) They were sold out in a couple of hours.
I bought one immediately off course, here is my user report so far:
T68i comes in white box with the SE logo on top and green on the sides. For the rest just white, looks really nice. Phone is packed with battery, charger, user manual and cdrom. To be honest: not installed the software yet, it looks like it's the same version as on the internet (t68m). On the cd-rom label is printed "Mobile Phone t68" and NOT "t68i". I synced my t68i with the old program already on my pc and no problems syncing (cable) with Outlook 2000 at all.
Major hardware enhancement is the readibility of the keys, defintely in a dark environment. Keys have bright blue backlight, and makes them easy to read. Much better then t68m!
No info on battery performance yet of course, just got the phone.
Joystick feels more solid, you need just a litlle bit more power then with the t68m to activate it. This is not model specific, we've tested this with some t68i's this morning just to be sure.
Some people were interested in battery back, it's plactic, high quality though. Above the display there is Sony Ericsson printed and this is also printed on the battery.
The software info in service menu:
R2A014
prgCXC125323
R2A014
prgCXC125326_TAE
LCD SW Versions
Test: 200109110
Current: 200109110
Customization MS
CDA 102096/1R2A
Customazation TAE
CDA 102096/1 R2A
Already played with the thing on Cebit (see my other post), and noticed nice menu speed improvements compared to t68m (r2a013). When navigating through the contacts almost no delay if you're not clicking really fast. T9 text input speed now acceptable, still no Nokia speed.
After a very long time Ericsson has finally said goodbye to the famous sms tone "beep- beep". The standard tone is now a little different. Sounds more like a soft police sirene. I don't like this.
There are some sms improvements however:
if you got a new message, the t68m (r2a013) just said "read now" on the display, on the t68i the text "read now" en the name of the sender scrolls over the display. It doesn't do this when you have multiple new sms messages, then it just says "read now"
When you use delivery report, it also gives the name of the recipient instead of just "message delivered"
There is also a general aural fault warning. Whenever you press the wrong button, or do something wrong with the joustick the phones warnes you with a special Windows like sound.
You can choose from 13 different backrounds or set the same images as screensaver. Some even move BUT!! after a few seconds that stupid clock comes on again. Looks like you just can't shut the damn thing of.
There's a special Communicam menu in the fun&games section that even is visible without a communicam attached to the t68i.
Didn't do a lot with the picture phonebook yet, don't have a digital camera. In the "edit contact" menu there is just an extra option with "edit picture"
MMS is not supported yet here in Holland.
If you take the phone new out of the box there are three demo MMS messages in the MMS inbox, pretty nice, complete with pictures and sounds, however if you perform a master reset (what i did) these demo messages are gone!!!
In the MMS menu you can find the important picture memory status menu:
mine reads as follows:
Free: 1013KB
My sounds: 4kb
My pictures: 55kb
Themes: 55 kb
MMS Inbox: 0b
MMS Unsent: 0b
MMS Sent: 0b
MMS Templates: 0b
This is after a master reset with just one extra picture inserted (with data cabale) next to the standard 13 pictures that come with the phone.
Email and Wap over gprs works okay, no big differences with my t68m r2a013.
Also have a HBH-15 and voicedialling and voice answerring works pretty well now. When someone calls me the voice tag is first played through the phone and then through the headset. Finally!!!. With my hbh15+t68m r2a013 the voicetag never played through the headset. Little problem is that sometimes the first .1 or .2 seconds of the tag are difficult to hear because of the headset ring. As soon as you hear you're phone ringing you need to pay attention to "decode" the voicetag that is only played once by the way.
Games:
Arimona, Contrary, Erix, Four piles, Naval fleet, North territory, Q, Yukon struggle.
That was it for the moment, happy to answer al your questions guys and let''s hope SE gives all t68m users wat they want to!!

Nice one
I just got the T68i too today, together with a HBH-20 bluetooth headset
Its in the charger right now, so I havent really tried it much out yet.
Some general comments :
Much better looking in real life, than on pictures,..I have to admit that ! Certaintly doesnt feel like a plastic-phone, and it doesnt look like one either
Matt-Silver-finish and ice-blue looks quite neat.
The "feel" when You hold it,..is good and firm, no rattling volume-button. Buttons are very nice, and the back-light is very BLUE !
The manual have grown in size

There seems to be a lot of new stuff to study.
And its nice to have the CD-rom back, with modem-drivers and so on,..nice move SE.

Does the phone now have polyphonic ringtones?
On the MMS demo on the t68i website, it seems that the sound has been vastly improved..

polyphonic ringtones require an external speaker, which the T68 does not have.
