1] install latest phone software from SE website. configure mobile phone monitor in control panel. simply enable all ports to start off with. make sure that its detected ure p800
2] reboot pc without phone in cradle
3] turn off antivirus/firewall software.
4] put phone in cradle and it should attempt to connect...
the latter is an overview of what needs to be done. also, its worth while checking ure device manager to make sure that the correct drivers have been installed for ure cable.
for more details on this subject use the search....

I have had this happen to me upteen times! The phone is recognised as connected by the PC but sometimes the blue phone icon that shows up in the tray that allows u 2 sunc and backup etc. doesnt show up. Also u cant access the phone and browse it thru explorer either. I have also had explorer crashing too for no reason, then XP usually just restarts explorer. This is usually when I am browsing the phone memory thru explorer. Strangely, I am sometimes still able to install programs even thou it shows as not connected!
The only fix I have found is to uninstall then reinstall making sure u install with the usb cable out and then restart then plug it in.
I know there are a few bugs with the PC Suite as beforei ever installed it, I was amazed how compared to Win98SE, XP was only crashing about 2-3 times a month! Now its usually a couple of times a week.

Contact your repair centre and see if they can help.
It may be a dodgy phone connector!

right i have tried numerous other things in the usb port and the port works ok i get the same thing whatever usb port i put the cradle in it just says "connecting" all the time even when there is no phone actually in the cradle. it never actually connects, i think it must be some sort of software conflict because of this i am just wondering if you know of any software which does conflict with it

try disabling or uninstalling your virusscans and firewalls. In my case, i get a fatal exception error when these are on. hope these helps.

i have exactly the same problem. i've spent ages today trying to get my p800 to connect to my pc. in fact i put up a post about this a few weeks ago but i dont think anyone replied. do people think it would be a good idea for se to relook at the connection software? or maybe theres some kind of conflict with other software already installed on my pc thats causing the problem.
today i rebooted turned off anti v software uninstalled then reinstalled still no joy and then suddenly out of the blue it starts working again. its not really satisfactory -load of hassle. no one seems to really know what causes this problem.
