Okay, my first impressions of my new T610. First off, I've been a loyal fan of Nokia for the past several years, but I think they really lost it with the crazy keypad on the 7250, and the T610 looks more stylish than anything I've ever owned! It was time to switch!
So, my first gripe is that when it goes into power-saving mode (after leaving it alone for a few seconds) I can't see the clock at all. It looks like it is drawn in very dark text on a black background. I can just about see it if I hold the phone close and tilt it a bit.
Is there a setting I can change to make the clock visible in power-saving mode?
My second observation is that the categories in the phone book are fixed. On my 8310 I can add as many mobile numbers as I like to one person (I have several friends each with several mobiles!) but on the T610 there is only space for one mobile each person. I have to use the 'other' category if people have more than one mobile. This isn't too annoying, but could be fixed in future.
My third observation has nothing to do with the T610 per se, just pointing out that it *is* slightly modified by O2. There is an O2 screensaver and wallpaper that you cannot delete, and a few other bits and bobs (but nothing as bad as the Voda crap).
I think the most irritating thing is the way T9 works, compared to my Nokia phones. It is completely different, but I'm learning slowly to adapt. I'm not sure I like the way you choose the punctuation. On Nokia you just press the '1' key to cycle through the symbols. On the T610 you press '1' then use the menu that pops up (or use one of the softkey menus to get a symbol list). This really is half-a-dozen of one and six of the other... both Nokia and SE seem to have poor symbol input. My gripe isn't really with the T610, just the fact it is a lot different moving between phones!
Anyway, overall I am very, very pleased with my new phone. If anyone can tell me how to make the clock show up, that is my one big problem. Everything else seems fine.
Mind you, I have not actually called anyone with it yet, but I've sent a few texts

I know what you mean about the differences between SE and Nokia T9, but like you said, its six of one, half a dozen of the other. Both systems work well, and it won't take you too long to get used to it. The T9 implementation on the T610 is probably the best I've seen on any Se phone. One gripe i've always had with just about any mobile phone is no easy way to insert smilies. With the T610 you can just hit "1" twice and you'll get a happy smiley

on the subject of the t9 input how do u find the 'smart' ordering of the words ie the words u use most move higher up the selection list. i find this very confusing cus its forever changin with me and its taking longer to txt. with my t68i for example i knew from memory where each word was in the list and could flick to it without even looking but now the list keeps changing i have to keep checking im putting the right words in.
i thought this was a clever idea when i first heard about it but in practice i dont find it works very well.

To be honest I hadn't noticed that, but it sounds useful to me. The worst word to type on the old Nokia was 'coz' because it took a LOT of cycling through words I'd never heard of until it got the right one!
I'm pretty unusual in that I don't use many abbreviations in texts, but anything that brings frequently-used words to the top sounds good to me.
Now I can type texts about MOOMINS without having to spell it out each time

so when you need symbols or stuff. press "1", then use the joystick to go to them. like "?" is 1 + joystick down 3 times.
and yes, I do get annoyed by the AI for the placement of the words.....

@ flomp - if you really want that clock to be seen all the time, go to 'settings' -> 'display' -> 'light' and turn it 'on' instead of 'automatic' or 'off'
