In the last week, I have had Invalid Mobile instead of the operators name come up on my screen 4 times.
The reasons I have been given are as follows;
The operator said;
SIM card needs changing as it is too old for the phone. The latest phones operate differently and in some ways are incompatible with the sim card hence the message.
SE Tech Support I said;
The phones stolen mate, take it back where you got it from. It was brand new, boxed and sealed, so I doubt that. T-Mobile stickers are only put on at the warehouse right? Retailers don't have their own stash do they?
SE Tech Support II said;
The phone is definitely faulty, take it back and get a new one.
SE service centre said;
It is a network issue, contact your service provider for assistance. The phone is absolutely fine, that message will only originate via the network.
Retailer;
We'll change it for you.
Frankly I am now pee'd off at the prospect of changing a phone which has been customised to me. My Pictures, my ringtones etc. to be juggled again!!! I am already on my 7th phone, I hope there is someone out there who can help. Also please let me know if you have experienced the same?
Thanks and please help...my 14th day is tomorrow, so I need a response by 12pm BST GMT Friday 4 July 2003.

Hmmm, that's interesting. For a period of about 30 secs today mine said "SOS Calls Only" instead of "O2-UK" but I think that was because network coverage was weak.

yup when there's no coverage, the phone will show SOS. i had that since i was using T28.

Hi,
I had the same problem with my T610 about a month ago. The "Invalid mobile" message appeared several times on only one day. I did the following:
1. I got the operator to
white list the IMEI number and...
2. Did a master reset of the phone (I really didn't want to but was pretty worried about this sudden problem

After this I never got the message again.
This is what the operator had to say about the problem:
The "Invalid mobile" message appears probably duo to the fact that the IMEI numbering scheme is different in new
phones (most probably in others as well). The IMEI number has more characters (1 or 2 more I think) than the usual pattern. This makes the switch unable to do location update/checking etc. for the phone and hence kind of "deny" it any service.

That last bit about the extra two ditgits on new SE phones is poo. Ericsson and SonyEricsson have always have an extra to digits when you do *#06#, those two number are never sent buy your handset to the network. I guess they are for Ericsson/SE reference only. But they will not cause a prob.
Invaild Mobile, normally means one of three things has happened. 1)handset's imei has been blacklisted 2) The HLR that holds all your details is corput in someway (easily fixed by operator) or 3) imei network database is corput (happens alot) again easily fixed by operate.

The IMEI of my T610 was not blacklisted and HLR update was happening without any problem (i.e. HLR wasn't corrupt). However, the IMEI did not show up when searched. The operator could not explain as to why the IMEI was not showing up although HLR update was happening correctly. XXXX Type Identifier defined by BABT
YY This was previously a separate part of the IMEI – the Final Assembly Code (FAC).
The FAC is now obsolete and all IMEI allocations after 31/12/2002 have an 8 digit TAC. YY is set to 00 from 01/01/2003 until 31/03/2004. Setting to 00 permits the GSM industry to move to 8 digit TAC codes, but until 31/03/2004 this limits production to one million GSM terminals per TAC. Additional TAC’s may be allocated to permit production of more than one million units.
ZZZZZZ Allocated by BABT but assigned to individual mobile stations by the manufacturer
A Phase 1 = 0, Phase 2 & 2+ = check digit and is defined as a function of all other IMEI digits
Since the FAC is obsolete, notification of location of manufacture is no longer required.
Please understand that I'm NOT insisting that I'm 100% correct. There could be other reasons for the "Invalid mobile" message as well.

as far as I know, the 14 days is the period that you can cancel your 12 months airtime contract. if the phone is faulty, it is covered by a 12 month warranty.
I had the Invalid Mobile message several times over a 3 day period about a month ago, and so did my other half who has the same phone bought at the same time

Ill tell you my story.
I had a Nokia 7250, for a period of a week - no Invalid mobile, no unregistered sim - just a pony camera!
I sold the Nokia 7250 and went back to my Motorola V66 (temporarily, while I made plans to get hold of a T610)
Alll for a sudden, instead of saying T-mobile the V66 screen read unregistered sim. The only way to clear this was to switch off the phone and turn back on. I assumed this was a problem with my V66 and thought bugger it im getting a T610 soon, who cares.
T610 came, put in my old sim and 18 hrs later Invalid mobile comes up. I'm freaking now, so I ring T-mobile. They inform me my sim is damaged and I need a new one at a cost of £10, I'm suprised but I agree.
New sim arrives problem gone. Until last weekend, at exactly 3am the phone read Invalid mobile!!!!!!!!!!!!!
hmmm. It hasnt done it since but leads me to believe it is an operator issuse and cant be anything to do with the phone because it occured on my motorola and t610.
I know the fact that this did not happen on my 7250 disproves this theory, but the 7250 is such a crap phone it does not come into my hypothesis - LOooL
