I've been waiting for Carphonewarehouse to stock the Orange T610, as they'll price-match the internet prices (up to £50)....
anyway, I started thinking...
Do you find yourself getting obsessed with protecting your phone?? I have a t68i and for the last year I've been absolutely paranoid about getting it dirty or scratched...
But this only seems to be with
phones. They seem so fragile and delicate. Whenever I try a different phone, I don't mind being heavy handed.
In fact, I quite liked the idea of getting a Nokia or something, so I could throw it around...
Maybe it's the fact that
phones seem to have so many manufacturing flaws...
Wonky joysticks, soft buttons (that don't 'click' like they should), casing flaws, etc...
Other manufacturers seem to have quality control sorted!? Maybe it's been my bad luck with
phones, but nearly every T610 I've had a go on, something isn't quite right. Nearly every single one had a 'soft' button (Either the camera or the WAP button). Some have joysticks that seem very particular about how you push down (not "in"). Some are responsive, and some only work if you press exactly downwards.
What with all the other serious problems with earlier phones, It's left me a very worried customer. Another reason for high-street purchase; easy returns!
Well, hopefully my T610 will be flawless, and I'll be able to forget about my worries...

I just threw my T300 on the floor, the front cover and the keypad were separated from the main phone. I've got it since 2 months, and it was the first time I 'dropped' it.

Have dropped my T300 from the office desk a couple of times, and down a 6 metre concrete stairway (bouncely-bounce), and it's still as happy as could be. Thinking of buying a new cover though

I dropped my p800 at least 3-4 times, and nothing have happende at all... Only one af the times were on concrete/stones.
It is still looking/working as new, but there is a tiny scratch on the top.
Offcourse i'm really carefull with it, but i think i would be that too if it had been a Nokia, since the p800 is an expensive peace of toy
When i had the t68 i must admit i wasn't too nice to it
But maybe because a new cover only costed 150 dkr (23$).

I am more carefull with my SE phones because I see more value in them.. Not because they are fragile!!
In my experience the T68i is the toughest phone made, I hade insurance and I wanted to brake my phone.. And really I hit the phone so hard against big metal stuff.. and it worked still.. The screenglass is so f##king hard.. it didn't break..
and I have used other SE and Ericsson phone, and they really are in good quality...
And one more thing, getting a scratch on a T610 will cost you alot to change the faceplate.
Nokia phones has covers for cheap prices, so being hardhanded with the phones and getting the cover all broken is easy to fix.. just go buy a new cover and the phone looks as new..
Working in a mobilsphoneshop, I get alot of information from service centers... and what I understand nokia phones are badly constructed, and easy to break.. thats why they need 5210 and 5100
Ericsson dont
Once they did the r310 and proved that they are the best in doing phones for hardhanded people too

I'm never particularly gentle with my phones. I've dropped, thrown and sat on pretty much all of my handsets and they always come up smiling. The only phone I've thrown away is an Ericsson T10 and Vodafone exchanged my T65 with another one with a dodgy SIM holder (they LOST my own!) But the T65 sim holder never was too clever.
