I've noticed a good trend in terms of companies where the best stuff (technically) isn't as successful as the market leader. Examples (where the latter is more successful):

- SE and Nokia
- Xbox and PS2
- Epson Stylus and HP Deskjets
- Panasonic and Sony audio visual products

I couldn't agree more with the Panasonic vs. Sony thing, we have 2 largish TVs in our house, one Panasonic, one Sony, the Panasonic is FAR superior, in every respect.

I don't know if this is important, or relevant, but the XBOX's developers are terrible, and the power is in the wrong places, too, it tries to be too multitasking. There are many more developers for the PS2, and they are of a higher Caliber.

its hard to define better.
surely nokia are better than sonyericsson cos they sell more phones? the majority of people would say that.. but then you get others saying that are better because they have more features in each phone.... but do we need them all? with nokia, theres a model for everyone.
but most people in this forum have a thing against nokia.

as for sony vs panasonic... i'd prefer a tele that looks good aswell... wouldnt want a big hunk of black plastic in my room wheter it has a good picture or not. when im not wathing tele, i want it to look good

You have a point there, the Sony looks a lot better, but if i had to get rid of one, it would definitely be the Sony. But that's me, it stuck in the corner anyway.

There are nicer looking Panasonics, aren't there?

samsung is selling good in the television market. but if i would buy a tv it would be a sony, the design looks great, en the functions are enough, even if i pay a bit more.
and its the thing you want thats good sometimes. i had the chance between an X-box/PS2/gamecube. well i went for the gamecube only for the game star wars rogue leader 2. oyea i'm a star wars fan and this game is only for the gamecube so thats why. and most important games come out on all the platforms. i don't need the dvd functions since i've got a dvd player, so this was what was best for me. and i saved a few euros to save for some new phones for the collection

Regardless of the tech specs, its all down to marketing. If u have enough money to push the brand/product,more ppl will know about it..more ppl will buy it. Jus look at the slick marketing campaign by Sony for the PS2 and compare it to the XBOX. Microsoft dont even come close. Like i said, its all about the marketing. This message was posted from a T68i

But there was so much hype about the XBOX! Also, after having both (in my halls at university - i had the PS2) I would have to say the PS2 is just better (not on paper, obviously)

You gotta also consider how much more you are willing to pay for the same product, but prettier

but the first playstation is history, cause of that history, people will choose the PS2 over the X-box. and indeed the PS1 was a big hit thx to marketing. nintendo 64 lost, cause they has as good as nothing. and when a product becomes a must have in the society, people will buy whats most bought.

Nintendo lost twice because the PS1 was originally an add-on for the SNES, but Nintendo cancelled the contract with Sony, fools. That's what the oprt on the bottom of the SNES was for.
