unlikely since vertrag is german and since it means contract it probably also means the phone is locked to the carrier.

Vertrag doesn't mean that the phone is locked over here in Germany. Usually all phones are unlocked if u buy them with a contract. But to sign one of these contracts/vertrag u have to be an inhabitant of germany, that is u must to get a vertrag. So u cannot buy a phone w/vertrag from somewhere outside germany.
