It's usually about 10-15% cheaper in those private electronic shops. With the cheapest of these shops being in the Mong Kok area.

The 'quality' should be much the same. (They come from the same warehouse/factory) but I think you get a shop warranty at places like Fortress and Broadway, whereas you just get slightly more hassle and a 'quick sell' style service at these cheaper electronics outlets.

You can get one at the Mong Kok Computer Centre. I got one for HK$160. I don't know if you say it's cheap, but it is to me. I mean, at other places they sell it at $200 or even $300. So, it's up to you.

Instead of an IRD why not get a Bluetooth surly the Computer centre there or the Mobiel fone place in MOng Kok (Sin Dart ) has them.
Why need to point the thing directly when you can have it wireless

Because many BT dongles do not come with the latest software, which means you can't send pictures from the phone to the PC, for example.

Buying phones from little shops means the phones are probably parallel imports from countries like Taiwan/Indonesia. This would be OK if the shops sell them as-is. The problem is many shops switch accessories (most common being batteries, and these are the "better" shops, others switch internal parts, or sabatage the phones to increase their repair business).
