Cingular in US is selling the T616 now for $300 USD with no contract and it is turning out the phones are factory unlocked!! Weird but true, I have one!. Here is my list of differences between this and the T610 so far:

*- Obviously the Cingular logo at the bottom of the phone, below the keypad. Not too big but still noticeable. That's all the external customizations

*- Clock! The clock screensaver has a different font than the T610 and for some reason is easier to read even without the light on than on the T610. I like this a lot more than the T610 clock

*- Pushing up on the joystick brings up Cingular internet links (replaces SonyEricsson Internet) which is cool if you have cingular. This is the same as the 2nd icon, "Internet Services"

*- 1st Icon is replaced with Arrow type icon labeled Cingular. This doesn't work unless you have Cingular since it will connect using Tmobile GPRS but you can't access the page (Gateway error message)

*- All of the "More..." doesn't work without having Cingular. It seems they redirect people to the Cingular site when choosing More Themes, More Pictures, etc. Makes sense but is annoying!!

*- Additional Cingular theme is installed and cannot be deleted. Doesn't take up too much space

*- COOL RINGTONES! I actually like the polyphonic Cingular ringtone, it's a catchy tune. They've also added some other ringtones such as Somewhere out there, etc. All very nice

*- COOL Graphics. The backgrounds are better than what comes with SE phones. Lot of variety and ones you can actually use

*- SE screensaver, piece of crap just shows the SE logo and fades out

*- Startup and Shutdown animations are the Cingular logo only fading in and out. it's actually not bad since there's no text, just the logo thingy

I haven't had a chance to test the BT static issue but there's no hissing problem as far as I can tell. Also, the screen on the T616 looks a lot crisper and it also seems more responsive than T610. Could be my imagination.

All T616 currently available at Cingular are 03W26 with R2A hardware rev.

Anyone here know if SE has posted a vanilla T616 firmware on EMMA? I'd love to remove the customizations!

It'll be the same situation as Vodafone, where a firmware upgrade WILL NOT remove any customisations. Apparently the customisations aren't stored on the standard EEPROM, so a flash doesn't touch them.

Theres only one guy I've heard of that can remove the Vodafone customisations at the moment, and he's been working on it for a while. He's based in the UK, and I dunno if his method would remove the Cingular stuff.

ANYONE can remove the voda customisations (at least most of them) using a T28 data cable ... there's about 4-5 sites on the net that will provide the necessary software.

ARE YOU SURE THAT THEY ARE UNLOCKED??? That would be some fantastic news. I noticed that on ebay all of the sellers are selling T616's that are cingular models and they all say that they are unlocked (I didn't assume it was this way out of the factory but it could make sense).
