Quote from an email I just got:

"Hello

Please be advised that we have a network outage on HLR 41. This will affect up
to 5,000,000 subscribers and is not area specific. i.e 2 users next to each
other 1 could have signal and the other may not.

Users will most likely be experiencing the Error Message SIM registration
failed.

We are aware of the problem and are doing a best to correct it.

There is no ETA for a fix at present."

Does that mean I get some of my money back then? cheeky beggers!

I just installed the ImageFix (I'm still running R2D), and re-booted the phone to be greeted with a message saying "Sim Error. Contact network provider." I thought I'd managed to break it!

At least now I know my precious is OK and there's nothing to worry about (as much as 5million customers with no reception is nothing to worry about!).

When I had a similar problem a while back with the GPRS on my P800, I was credited £20 back onto my account by Orange as soon as I informed them of my displeasure, so I would think there is a very good chance you will get some money back if your phone signal dies.
