Sorry if this seems like a newbie question. I assure you I've spent the best part of all day searching for an answer to this, both on these forums and around the net in general. This is my last chance!
I would like to copy my phonebook from my T610 to my Win98 PC. I do NOT want to use the bundled SonyEricsson software because it seems to require Outlook, something I have no intention of ever installing or using.
But surely there is a piece of software out there that can do a very simple thing: read the phonebook from the T610 and store it on my PC, allow me to manipulate and update it if necessary, then send it back to the phone. That's all I want to do, no other fancy stuff.
By the way, I have a bluetooth dongle and a connection to the phone which works perfectly in all other respects. But as I do not have a PIM on my machine, the "send all ... via bluetooth" option doesn't work.
On a related note, I thought I'd try copying the phonebook to the SIM so I could back it up that way, but this 'forgets' all the categories, and when you restore it they all end up as multiple entries with the same name, and all numbers stored under 'home'. Most annoying. Also I can't find an option to delete the entries from the SIM! I'll have to put it in another phone and erase it that way!
So, the main question is: can anyone suggest very simple (free/shareware) program that will backup my phonebook.
If anyone can tell me how to erase the SIM entries, that is a bonus!

I'm not entirely happy with SonyEricsson assuming we all use Outlook, and designing their installer so that it fails if it can't find it. There are loads of people who don't use Outlook, but could still make good use of the other parts of the SE bundled software.
In fact, I think I'll write and complain to them about it.

Personally I think that Outlook takes some beating for PIM managment. It makes it so easy for me to sync my phonebook, calendar and notes all in one go. If you really don't want to use it though there is some SE software that is a phone book and sms manager that might do the job.
I used to run it with my T65 when I first got it before I started using Outlook and it's a great little program. I don't remember it having Bluetooth options, but that's no problem because you can just make a serial connection to your phone via Bluetooth that will assign it a COM port.
I haven't tried this software with my T610 but I'll be very surprised if it doesn't work. You can download it by going to Sony Ericsson’s global support site, selecting the T65 as your phone, choosing synchronization software and then clicking on “Full Functionality for non Outlook users”.

I just tried this out of interest but couldn't get it to work. The program recognised the phone and said it was syncronising the phone book, but no entries came up on the screen. I can't imagine why; maybe the T610 uses a slightly different format for storing the info that this older program doesn't understand.

I'm gonna drive in to work and get my Office CD and succumb to installing Outlook. I'll never use it, but at least I'll have a working phone connection :o)
I think I would have had to do it anyway in the end, coz I want to set up the GPRS modem on the PC and as far as I can tell I need the SE software to do that. So Outlook it will have to be.
But I'm still not happy SE couldn't have produced a non-Outlook version!
