Hi all why is it everyone here thinks the P800 is some kind of super phone people talk about it like it’s a Lamborghini I know it does a lot and looks good and is proberly the best phone you can get today but it hasn’t got any superior technology. Its not like you can store a 100GBs of data or play UT2003 or it comes with a T1 connection I just wondered if I was missing something that’s all

hmm... what would count as superior technology? and if you don't mind spending some $$$ you can eventually store 100GBs of data buy buying dozens of MSDs. You can't play UT2003 with it but neither can you play one in a super mainframe. And you have to wait for a 3rd party to manufacture a cable to connect to the P800 so you can get full T1 access -- assuming the phone can handle the bandwidth

now i don't know about the lamborghini thing but i am impressed with the capabilities of a phone of this size (do find it a lil bulky but I'm not aware of any other phone in the market right now that has this large screen & features otherwise I would have bought the 'other' phone and please don't mention the DoCoMo phone because it's not widely available

hehe hellfire nice one you know, we're kinda in love with the gadget. of course they could do a 100gb 4g wifi geforce3 p800 in its size but in 2003 it would be superexpensive and we're not prepared

Well I love it, coz its the Canine's Testilcles

Mainly coz I used to have to cart around my Palm Tungsten T and my Nokia 7210, and now all I take is my P800 and it does everything that the other two did, pretty much anyway

Of course it's not superior technology! Virtually nothing ever is. Particularly when it comes to consumer electronics. Everything is driven by market trends and the gradual evolution of the technology.

As semiconductor features shrink, more can be done in the same space and using less power. However, there's no one in production who's much ahead of anyone else in this. The ability to manufacture ever smaller features is largely driven by the evolution of the equipment used in the manufacture of chips.

Many different pieces of equipment are needed (it can cost billions to equip a modern chip production facility), from a wide variety of manufacturers. There is no point in one manufacturer building expensive equipment that exceeds the capabilities of all the other equipment in the processing chain. In the same way there's no point in having a brass chain with one titanium link.

The manufacturers of this equipment only build what their customers require and everybody works to something called the SIA Roadmap that sets targets for future chips in terms of feature size, performance, etc.

So no, the P800 does not represent any fundamental jump in technology. It's just product that is packed with an array of current day technology and a rich feature set.

All it needs is an application to edit MS Office documents and a facility to view Internet pages horizontally on Opera then its pretty complete.
