Hi,
This has probably been asked and answered already, but how many colour can be displayed on the T68 screen at any time?
I know that it is capable of 256, but it doesnt look this many in the background pics? Or is this just my eyes?

As you say the screen can fake our naked eye. Maybe it has a 16 color palette and swap it 16 time you get 256 color. But it eat the processor power. Don't even think of animated gif, it will never work. So I think T68 has a 256 color palette.
As you can see for 4096 colors it from 16 x 256 too.
256 color look suck in PCs too.

I don't quite get it ... someone hs mentioned that the 256 colors is not really 256 colors? The color profile is diff. or something like that...

The palette which only has 256 colour, so you have limited colour to choose. You can't have all kind grey colour(example), so the software choose the nearest colour.
Let say you have a picture with super deep red, but T68 doesn't have that red, and if the T68's palette contain pink, it will use pink.

It even looks a bit more dull, but that might justbe the contrast setting. What explanation does this phenomenon deserve?

Well, for real pics to be look nice on T68i/T300, you need to enhance the quality by adjusting the contrasts and other stuffs........

I figured it out in the other forums... here's an excerpt:
I got the
256.act color table file, and loaded it up into my favorite imaging program - Macromedia Fireworks - and I have here what may probably be the fastest way to get good results on the T68i:
1) Take a pic into Fireworks...

If you want to make any changes to the pic etc, do them now.
Now if you put this file as-is into your T68i, it will look like this:

So ...
2) In the Optimise tab, under the gif type choose Custom and load the .act file mentioned in the posts above.
3) Set the "dither" percentage slider all the way up to 100...
4) Export the gif.

Voila!!!
FMA it to your phone and you're done!!!!!! Yaay!
Of course you can make the pic look better with a few more steps etc but this is probably the best trade-off of ease vs. quality!

The T68 screen can show 256 colors. But you have a fixed palette with 256 fixed colors. Not like on the PC, where you can choose 256 colors from a palette of 16.7 million colors. For example you can choose a palette with only red shades on the PC. This can't be done on the T68 since it only has a fixed amount of shades for each color.
