I'm really confused by this... If you look at your normal dial-up or network card connections on any PC, they are all 'bound' to an adaptor in the network control panel. And each adaptor is bound to TCP/IP settings.
So when you do a 'winipcfg' you see the IP configuration for the device that is online right now.
But the bluetooth modems don't seem to be bound to anything. I can't quite see how they can work in that case (and actually mine doesn't work).
If you connect up using your bluetooth modem, then look at the settings in winipcfg, there is nothing there (just random IP settings) - so how do you find out what your IP adress is?
Or am I looking at this the wrong way?
I teach networking for a living, and this has me stumped! Perhaps I'm being too literal about it.

The IP is specified in your phones wap profiles
desktop->connect->wap->wap profiles->home then hit the edit button.
I don't think you create an ip when connecting to Bluetooth. Your phone creates the ip to the outside world but doesn't use an ip to communicate to the phone.
I hope this is making some sense.
I think this has to do with the fact that there is no need to create an ip for the computer (like a router does) because there can only be one device connected at once.

I disagree... I think the problem was because none of the settings given to me by O2 were working.
If I use the bluetooth modem to dial up a normal ISP (using an 0845 number) it *does* bind to the PPP adapter and I can see my IP address via winipcfg on the PC.
Obviously if you are using the phone to surf the full internet via a PC/bluetooth link, you require an IP address.
I still don't have any valid settings from O2 tho.
