Just returned my T610 and cancelled contract under 14 Day Cooling off period. Only way to get rid of those damn Vodafone icons. Below is SonyEricsson's response to my request on how to get rid of the icons or what they are planning to do about it.

------------------------

Thank you for contacting the Sony Ericsson Customer Care Centre.

From your previous emails we can only assume that the Vodafone Live menu has been added to the handset and therefore changed from the regular one we have on all of our other handsets. When a phone is sold from one of our Distributors to networks, they are able to change the software to suit their needs.

Unfortunatly some customers are going to prefer one network menu to another, and therefore we suggest to check all goods before purchasing, if the handset had been purchase via ourselves, the menu colours and displays would be the same as detailed in pictures on our website.

Please contact the Sony Ericsson Customer Care Centre again if we can assist you further.

Not sure why you chose to create this new thread rather than just add it as the next part of the story on the thread you now changed to say we should ignore... but...

it has always seemed to me that people who buy a subsidised handset on a contract cannot really complain with the phone they get, be it locked or branded or customised in the way that network sees fit (even if the rest of us don't agree with them!).

Vodafone advertise their 'live' in many places and as a buyer, a person should inform themselves of what they are getting and if this branding is not what you want then don't take the phone or contract.

In general people seem to want to buy the handset in the cheapest way possible and then complain about all this and I just cannot understand as you cannot have it both ways. Actually you can according to a few threads but you see what I am getting at.

For me I didn't want all that so I bought an unbranded one and am happy with my choice.

I guess you are glad you could take it back and cancel your contract so now you once again have the choice to spend the extra money and get the unbranded version that you really want.

Point taken. I agree with your comments but I was NOT informed by Phones4U that the phone was customized. I was given a demo of the T610 which I can only now assume was a Sim Free version. I was aware of Vodafone Live but was never given any indication that it would completely take over the phone.

Maybe I should take some of the blame, but a large percentage has to lie with Phones4U as there did not give me the fall facts.

To that point, they made me feel VERY unwelcome when trying to cancel that contract. I will certainly not be buying from there anymore.

And as you very well pointed out, Sim-Free only from now on. Extra money is well worth it !!

P.S. Sorry about the extra thread. I'm afraid I'm a Newbie. Will try harder next time.

Phones4U... oh dear!

The sim free prices are coming down now (SE shop has them for 250) so its getting better. Hopefully blue and red should be available soon in UK so might be worth waiting a week or two if you are after one of those.

I know !! I certainy learn the hard way. No offense to any honest Phones4U employee's out there, but that company is a disgrace.

I think I'll wait a few weeks now and see what happens.

On another point, my existing contract with T-Mobile runs out in about 3 weeks. Once the contract has ended, does the SIM go completely dead or will I still be able to access the phone book ??

Normally when your contract ends you carry on as you were just paying monthly. I assume T-Mobile is the same.

Sorry, I didn't explain myself well enough. I have actually cancelled my contract which, given 1 months notice, will terminate in 3 weeks.

ah! then the sim will go dead for sure. get your contacts off while you can. although you can always buy one of those little SIM editing software packages later if you want (the ones that you put the sim into some sort of USB device etc)... or I heard some nokia phones can still access the phonebook when the sim isn't working but SE phones don't seem to.

I think the title of this thread is a bit misleading. It's not SonyEricssons fault.
