You could use Cakewalk, Fruity Studio, Cubase +++
Try searching for one of theese on a P2P program, google, or somthing like that...

You can alslo try to do a search on Downloads.com for free software to compose MIDI's. (Search for "Midi Composer")

Currently, i'm using Fruity, but if your just gonna use it for MIDI, I would suggest Cakewalk or Cubase. They might be a bit difficult to use in the begining, but they are simple (read: not that hard) to use once you get used to the interface.

i see. at the mo i'v been using a really simple program called "midi maker", but the features n options are quite limited, maybe just due to it being un-registered, but still. i hope these programs will satisfy me!

Cubase is a real professional pice of software to say the least.
It is widly used in record studios around the world. In other words, it has A LOT of features.

I can't seem to find the trial version on steinberg's home page though, I thought it would be there since I have downloaded it before.
If you give me 5 min. i'll see if I can find it in my CD folder for you...

EDIT: Found it. It's a rather old version. The file is 11mb. How should I send it to you? if you want it that is..

EDIT2: You could also download the demo for Fruity Studio here:
http://www.tucows.com/preview/209204.html
This pice of software is great for both MIDI and Mp3 composing. You have a 64channel mixer with up to 8 effects per. channel, you can play 999 instruments at the same time, (one word: chaos.
it has a great sequencer, and allows you to import MIDI tracks for remixing. It has a lot of features, and I think it's easy to use. Its not aimed at MIDI composing as much as "regular" composing, but its worth to check out.

No, I don't do MIDI. I only use MIDI as the interface between my synths and my computer.

I went through hell on earth trying to find the trance MIDI's on my site, so I started doing some, but luckly I found a site with the tunes I wanted..
