Hi everybody,
One of my friends have the iPAQ 3970 and he ask if I like to swap it with my P800, the two devices are so clean and in a good shape but I’d like to hear from you guys is it worth to replace it?

The IPAQ is probably one of the best PDAs out there. I'd say (from seeing a friend's) that it is much more powerful processor-wise, but then again it's not a phone. The P800 is the ONLY device that has all the features it does...
If you want just a PDA, and a good one at that, take the IPAQ. If you want a decent PDA, camera, MP3/OGG player etc, stick with the P800.

I think the p800 is a much better all round device but like the last poster says it is never going to stand up to and Ipaq for its pda functions. However when you add in the camera, GPRS, Phone, MP3 Player, etc. I think the p800 is a better buy.

But with the wireless pack for GSM/GPRS networks I’ll be able to use it as a phone. Also the iPAQ has a media player and I can normally listen to WMA & MP3 files.
The camera, I’m not using it too much so I can live without it.
What do you think??!!!

I had this dilema - keep the T68i and get a PDA, or move up to the P800? I did the latter; what I decided that I needed was more of a phone than a PDA, but the P800 gives me all the PDA functionality I could have wanted, plus the other feature mentioned above.

I had an ipaq 5450, gave the P800 a god but when it came to deciding I got rid of the P800 and kept the ipaq to go with my T610.
Now I can just carry a small phone when I don't need the PDA and both when I do. Bluetooth works flawlessly between the two for internet connections and the ipaq screen is heaps better than the P800. There are many many more applications available for the ipaq (see
PocketGeat), I can use Avantgo for offline web page reading when I am on my weekly jaunts from UK to Europe etc, I can connect to hotspots for very fast internet, stick 256mb (or more) SD cards in with my music, download maps into pocket streets from Microsoft Autoroute and perform routing on the ipaq. I can control my tv/hifi etc etc with built in Nevo remote control functionality. Use the terminal services client for simple remote login in and management of systems. etc etc etc. I could go on all day.
I am STILL very happy with my choice!

I am not aware at the moment that you can use the Ipaq as a phone easily and effectively. Though I am probably wrong. Besides the Ipaq is quite big so you wouldn't really want to, which is why you carry two devices.
I think no one is disputing that fact that the Ipaq is pretty much better than the p800 for all pda related things because thats why people buy it, its a pda. However the main draw for me to the p800 is that is performs pretty well in all areas where the ipaq performs very well in just a few areas. Realistically the ipaq is too big to fit in your pocket and be an mp3 player whereas the p800 although bulky for a phone is pocket size. But the screen on the p800 is much smaller because of this.
For the last 5 years I have had a mobile phone starting with a 3310 (urgh) and now p800, I see the pda, mp3, etc functionality as a bonus because really what I want is a phone. If I was a heavy pda user and wanted all that stuff I would buy an ipaq for sure but at the moment the p800 serves my needs.
As the smart phone tech improves i can see (over the next few years) that the way for these products to go is to combine them. I doubt that there will be many products out there that are not everything combined into one. The p800 is just the begining. And thats what the consumer wants. If I could get and Ipaq p800 combined in a small device then i would pay top dollar for it. SE and compaq and MS need to get together and have a chat, and they most probably already are!
Thats just my view.

First I think the actual PDA capabilities are fairly similar when you add the Handy Day to the P800.
The ipaq is perfectly fine size for listening to music. Its smaller in fact that most hard drive MP3 players like archos etc. I carry it in my top shirt pocket when I am listening to music.
There is a GSM/GPRS sleeve that gives you full phone functionality and well just look at how popular the O2 XDA is! And of course you have access to your complete contacts from outlook rather than the comparatively limited amount that can be stored on a sim.
I guess we all have our preferences and for the purpose of this thread all we can do is express our views for the originator to decidewhats important to them.

I am not the best person to comment really as I have not used an Ipaq to its full extent like you have. Maybe if I did get one I would be converted and would rather use it than a p800.
Like anything there are plus's and minus's to each product and it is basically down to the user preference but I hope our comments help you decide one way or the other.
