Hi, I've just bought a cingular T616 and I'm using the t-mobile service. Can anyone tell me how to remove the cingular settings and setup for the t-mobile. thanks.

I have bad news - Cingular locks the software - so you can't remove the settings they have. You can add T-Mobile settings but you cannot add a WAP profile (which means you can't surf). I bought an 'unlocked' cingular phone on ebay and still had to get it flashed (firmware replaced). For that I went to www.gsmvirtualdynamix.com.

the link you posted isn't working, so there's no way I can fix it on my own?

In the uk vodafone lock there wap/data profile too the way around it was to create a new profile and select that rather than edit the original profile as i wanted to have esato forums as my home page rather than vodafone live. This worked to do this but you may not be able to do what you want. This message was posted from a T300

I also got a Cingular unlocked T616 from eBay - and unlike this other user, I did get the settings to work so that I could browse the web. All it took was a little research. There are still certain things you can't seem to change, like the cingular homepage that you see when you go on the web, and certain of their backgrounds and music, but other than that, mine is pretty much t-mobile customized. The only thing I don't have set up is email - I have wap, mms, etc. all set.

Here you go:

T-mobile USA
This setup has all GPRS services successfully accessed through one APN.

Connect>Data Comm.>Data Accounts
GPRS CONNECTIONS:
(create new)
Name: T-Zones
Access Point (APM): wap.voicestream.com
User Name:
Password:
Primary DNS: 216.155.165.50
Secondary DNS: 216.155.165.50
IP Address:

(create another new gprs profile for MMS - same as above)
Name: T-Zones MMS
APN: wap.voicestream.com

===============================

WAP SETTINGS:
(create new)
Name: T-mobile
Connects thru 'T-Zones' GPRS
IP Address: 216.155.165.050
Advanced>Change Homepage: http://wap.myvoicstream.com

Name: T-mobile MMS
(create new)
Connects thru T-Zones MMS
IP Address: 216.155.165.050

================================
-- now you have to edit the MMS settings
Messages>MMS>Options>
MESSAGE OPTIONS:
Message Server: http://216.155.174.84/servlets/mms
WAP Profile: T-MOBILE MMS

thanks man, I have my internet access working now. the cingular preset is still unremovable, like the upper left cingular short cut and the annoying cingular home page when starting the browser.
hope someone knows how to remove the preset can post here soon.

Good God, it worked. After 5 hours each day for nine days. I got my laptop to connect.
Its not bad loading up full websites.

Now if I can only get my sony clie to work......it connects but webpages don't load and it won't connect to the e-mail server...

Wierd b/c everything seems to connect and autheticate perfectly. Using the same *99***2# that I used on my laptop too....oh well.

Ok looking at a few different threads here, I can't seem to find a clear answer. I am in New York and recently got a T616 that is totally unlocked. I use T-Mobile and when I insert my SIM, the phone turns on but keeps on searching for a tmobile signal. I tried manually searching for a network, but to no avail. Does anyone have any thoughts?

The other thread said that Tmobile doesnt have a 890 band so the phone wouldn't work here in NY . But in CA, where I bought the phone from, the guy unlocked it a second time just in case he missed one and insert a ATT SIM which worked. He said they don't have Tmobile out there so he couldn't try it. When i got it back, same result, keeps searching for a network signal.

Can anyone help clear this up for me? Thanks!

I had the same problem. I had a voicestream sim card and that card did not like the phone! I suggest to go to a Tmobile center and have them try one of their sims in your phone to see if one of theirs works. If you find that their sims work, I suggest to buy a sim for 20 bux and IR/Bluetooth/Sync the contact infor from the old card to the new card. If you cant get a signal using the stores sim card, I would suggest to call up Sony Ericsson and tell them your issue and you want to send it in for repair. The phone is less than a year old so you are still under warranty, no matter where or who you bought it from. The only negative thing is that you'll be out using a phone unless you have a backup!
