A phenomenon of mass hysteria triggered by numerous rumors of all types of super phones ”due to be released soon” by SonyEricsson

It appears that it’s enough for a person to write something like the following to start an avalanche of daydreaming and wild guessing.

Hi I work at one of the biggest 3G networks currently in operation. Due to non-disclosure agreement I cannot reveal which one. We have recently started a pilot testing project with SonyEricsson to test a new prototype due to be released in next April. The phone will probably be called Z1500 and will feature 3 band + UMTS/EDGE support. It will be equipped with a:
Large 65k TFT flat foldable touch screen
16mb onboard + MMC (max 512) memory support
64mhz processor for user process + 32mhz processor dedicated to system
2 mega pixel camera on the back
1 mega pixel camera on the front, both with video support.
The phone will be using Symbian operating system, and will be a fully featured smartphone
The phone will have fingerprint recognition for additional security
The phone will be approximately the same size and weight as the current T610 model
..
I have actually played around a bit with the phone, and it’s amazing. I will be uploading pictures of it later this week, if anyone is interested

The negative effects of such rumors is that people get their hopes up only to be disappointed later, or end up indefinitely waiting for these phones to come out on the market. It’s amazing how quickly such threads grow, and the people creating them get worshipped by their loyal ”fans” eating up every word they utter.

Personally I don't believe a word of it unless it has been announed in a press release or is on the coming soon page, both of which can be accessed from here.

I agree with you.People who make rumors about S.E launching new phones are doing harm to S.E handsets sales because when they can't wait people will buy another brand.

The only new phones that will be launched soon are P810/P900 and Z1010.I confirmed this with SonyEricsson South Africa.

lol! isn't p810/p900 still a rumour since it has not been announced? and by the sounds of it SE SA don't even know its name! and if they did why would they tell you without non discolsure?

As much as the rumour starters do not have the evidence to support their case (at present), we who read their posts likewise do not have any proof that they are lying.

If you have been in Esato for a long time, you'll find some of these rumours were fakes while some proved to be true. Only time will tell.

Personally, I like rumours. They promote members to post and thus interact, creating stronger espirit de corp. Whether they are true or not, it does not matter to me. It's great to read about fellow members feeling excited like I do; and sharing the dissappointment when the bubble bursts. I get to know many members with their interesting usernames this way.

As a matter of fact, I started some rumours before myself thru Photoshop manipulation. Sometimes the responses I get are harsh while at other times, others laugh with me with my "innovations". To me, it is fun; even if you are fooled, I don't believe you lose anything (btw, I always own up after a few days).

Rumours cause me to dream... about what new stuff our beloved brand will come up with. And dreaming is good. For without it, the world will never progress...

Dreaming and sharing of dreams and ideas is great. I am all for it. It's environments like that, where great ideas emerge.

However. Passing yourself off as something you are not to get more credebility, passing own ideas as someone elses, and announcing things you know to be untrue as facts without letting the users know is nothing more then heresy, and should be treated as such.

This is my opinion, not neccesserily everyone elses...

Rumours and people who wants to be important will always be a problem in any forum. The sad reality is that those who have true and real info to share will be chased off by members who has been fooled before. Those who tell the truth can't be bothered being called liars whilst the rumourmakers loves to defend themselves by throwing even more petrol on the fire. Btw... That phone invented in the first post would have been a blast and a half. This message was posted from a T610

Well according to the SE sales manager in my region there will be a better version of the P800 and he told it is the P810 but SE can change the model number before it is launched.

The better version of the P800 will be availabe in Dec 03 or by March 04 in South Africa
