I'm finding that I use .3 mb every eight hours or .9 mb a day which would equal approx 2.7 mb with the P800 just connected and IDLE

So basically if you want 100% connection to the internet 2.7 to 3 mb is just used for the luxury of perminent connection

Is there anyway around this, as its a lot of money.

Could an app be made to reduce this ammont and why is it so high?

With apps like messinger software MyBuddies and the benifits of instant e-mail I would like to be connected all the time (appreciate uses a lot of battery)

Any users out there who have peminent connection how much do you use and any tips to reduce mb usage ?(load all images unchecked)

thanks

N

Do you use MMS services? Does the phone have to contact any servers at any point for this? My GPRS when idle uses none at all but I do not have MMS services or have it checking my email.

MMS should be on a different profile to the standard GPRS so shouldnt affect it.

Don't have mybuddies so can't vouch for that, I have TipicMe but tbh only connect to it when i actually wanna use it, i've never left it idle so maybe i should try that

Some apps regularly connect for updates and some web pages reload on a regular basis (reloading adds or just refreshing the page). You could easily be getting this sort of usage if you leave the browser in the background on a page which reloads - it will do so even if it is not the frontmost application.

Try checking whether you get the same usage when all apps are closed (get something like Switcher or Handyday to ensure these applications are actually closed).

Nigelot - it wont be ur MMS that's causing it, as i said before it uses a different profile to the standard GPRS on Orange so wont show up on that data counter. It's most likely your MyBuddies prog running, i tried leaving TipicME (similar messaging client) and found that it clocked up a few extra KB in a few minutes of idle-time, obviously coz it updates every time someone logs in/out or sends you a message
