I'm guessing you're talking about a T68i?
In general each new version does seem to have some speed improvement so it can't hurt to get it done.
Assuming it is a T68i you will, in fact, get R8A since that is the latest.

If you are going to upgrade, upgrade to R8A
As for speed, some say it works faster, some say it doesn't. In my experience it was a little faster in the menu. Less bugs and more features though...

You don't have to "get" it. You can go to

service center and they will upgrade the phone for you.

If your phone is still under warranty then it's free. If not, you have to find out your local prices.

In Denmark we don't have SE Service Points as you say.
I can deliver the phone to the shop i bought it in, and they will then send it to SE, and they will upgrade it. But how can i be sure they upgrade to the latest? I have a T310, but it has some minor wap bugs.
Can't tell you the firmware version right now, cuz i've lost my phone somewhere (don't know where, yet)..
What's the latest FW?
I know i should use search, but the threads it shows are old, and therefore it isn't the latest FW anymore...
