> Question for T610, T-Mobile USA users
Bookmark topic
Hello,
I bought T610 from t-mobile last week, everything works great except one thing. Although I have gprs working fine, I still have not seen the gprs indicator on which is supposed to be above the regular gsm reception indicator. T-mobile tells me they have not seen that indicator on in any of the t610s sold where ericsson customer service says there may be a mulfunction with the phone. Before I do anything I wanted to ask t-mobile users with t610s if they have the indicator on. Maybe it's just something with t-mobile and that's whay we don't see it. Thank you.

people, this is really a yes or no question... Yes you see the indicator, no you don't ever see it. I have never seen it since I bought the phone so it either is normal and something with T-mobile but may work on other networks OR there is a problem with the phone so I have to send it to SE. Please let me know.

Hi there peeps. The only time wot will see the GPRS indicates is when wot are using a GPRS service like MMS or WAP over GPRS. The reason behind this lies down to battery consumption! Hope this help :-)

hmm I guess it is a problem with the phone then as I never see the indicator even if I'm using gprs.

I noticed the same problem with my T-Mobile branded t610. Customer service suggested I try to swap my sim into another phone at the store where I bought the phone to see if it's my phone or a problem with all the t610s that T-Mobile is getting from SE right now. At the store, I swapped it into another phone, brand new, out of the box -- and there was no gprs indicator either. The salesperson said that her new t610 is the same way. So I tried dealing with T-Mobile cs and the wireless data group, but they basically referred me to SE, since they are not the ones that make the phone. I could go and return the phone to the store, but I think I'll just wait to get it flashed in a few months. Annoying...

dga,
Well it's at leeast good to hear that it's not only me. What I think now is that it does not have anything to do with the phone but with the network. I spoke to SE and they asked me if I wanted to send the phone to them as there may be a malfunction. I might do that at some point. However I'll be going to Europe in 3 weeks so I might just test it there as well. Keep me posted if you hear anything, I will too...
also one more thing. When you tried another phone at the store, have you tried to go online? The reason is that by default the phone is set to GSM only under data comm options so unless you try to connect to t-zones, you may not see the indicator...

ok then that may be something to do with the t-mobile version of the t610 software... hmm I wonder how to resolve that.

ok I talked to a t-mobile guy and apparently what t-mobile did when they ordered t610 is that they asked SE to take the GPRS indicator off the phone since for t-mobile the regular gsm indicator is same as the GPRS indicator. In other word, if you have the signal to talk, then you can use GPRS. For that reason, they though they do not need 2 different indicators for the same thing. That's why T-mobile t610s don't have that indicator.
