i've recently had my mobile stolen and would like to know the ins and outs of handset locking. o2 have told me they've stopped my sim card and blocked my handset but how do they know which handset is mine since i didnt even buy it from o2? is it that my handset sends its IMEI each time i log on to the o2 network and o2 just add my handsets IMEI to a global list of IMEIs that are barred from the networks? if so, how do they know which handset to block if someone uses more then one handset frequently the same sim?

also i have a back up of the fone taken quite recently, is there any way of getting at the numbers via the PC? i'll be without a p800 now for at least 2weeks (if the carphonewarehouse honour my claim that is... fingers crossed)

i wish a stolen p800 on nobody! i hope u all avoid this pitfall of having the best fone!

thanks
gaz

yep sure is, all the major UK networks now have access to blocking the IMEI of any phone. thing is, theres IS a way to change to IMEI.

I thought the process for changing an IMEI was so long and difficult that no-one could be bothered! Is it the kind of thing that needs a PC and software to overwrite, or do you need to set about the phone with a screwdriver?

I'm just curious about this, so if I'm wandering in the direction of questions which get threads locked / deleted then just ignore me and talk about something else.

I checked yesterday with my network which is in kuwait and they said they can't block the phone...ahhhhhhh
but the good thing is frist of all there is one SE service center in kuwait and i gave them my IME no. and they will give me a call just when a my p800 comes to them with the same no.
so i have to wait ...also i dont think that the person who stole my p800 could change the IME no. because he is under 17 years old ( i am sure of this because it was stolen from me from a swimming pool which contains teenagers only)
I am just wishing that my mobile crashes so that the !@$# have to take it to SE center.
