Hi can anyone tell me what the chat option does the the messaging menu optionon the t610? Is it free? does it use up SMS?

it doesn't have to be with a phone with a sms chat function... it's just a way of presenting an overview of the sms you have gotten from the same person instead of you needing to browsing through the sms inbox

Are you sure it uses SMS?
I have looked at my itemised bill from Orange and it does not seem to register the continous number of texts sent during a chat session.

Even if I don't 'chat' but I send a lot of SMS to one person, my phone switches itself to chat mode. It's irrelevant whether or not the other person has the chat function, it's just so that I won't have to go thru the menu every time I send an SMS... and that's really all it is
