Do you think SE will add a contrast function in a firmware update?
I know there is already a contrast setting... but thats a mistake, it really a Brightness setting, not contrast. Ive noticed that better contrast would help the look of the screen.
Is it possible or would it need a hardware change, not just a firmware..?

It should be possible as a firware upgrade. However it's not a brightness setting, it is actually contrast if you look closely. You can also find another more sensetive contrast setting in the service menu.

no, its gets really bright.. almost white... and really dark, almost black when you go to the extreams on the contrast setting. It should get brighter with higher contrast, but there should be high contrast colours.. like instead of blue fading into red, it would be really bright red... then really bright blue.. i.e. More contrast...
on the opposite side of the scale the colours should all merge into a grey... not everything get darker..
Its a brightness setting.. with maybe a 1% contrast change, but probably not... what your seeing is just the brightness change...

I still have to disagree. If you look closely, not all colors are affected the same way like you would expect in brightness settings. If you shift contrast up - bright colors fade together, shift it down - dark colors fade together. If it was a brightness setting the effect would be something like a dimmer switch - all colors would become either dimmer or brighter while keeping the same separation

you may be right... but it is the worst contrast setting ive ever seen, if its a contrast setting..
