if u r sending imy/emy tones, then tough luck......it won't happen....if u r sending pictures, it wont happen too coz the dimensions are all wrong......pix can be sent via mms tho as it's automatically resized.....but again, yr title says via IR

so that's a dead end too....

So really all the IR port is for is T610 <-> T610 or T610 <-> computer file transfers? That kinda sucks :P

No, you've got it all wrong. Nokia Series 40 phones CANNOT send or receive pictures and polytones through their IR. It has nothing to do with your T610.
Polytones and images are in a standard format, and can be freely shared between SE phones, siemens phones, Samsung phones, etc. Just not Nokia series 40 phones, such as the 7210, 6100, 6610, 7250

Aren't polytones on Nokias still just midi files?
I didnt think it was the fault of my T610...I just thought it was silly that it seems kinda useless.

Yup, just MIDI.
What's useless is the Nokia IR.... only good for sending contacts, really.
With series 40 phones, you have 2 ways to share your pictures:
1. Send it as MMS
2. Hook up the phone to a PC using the data suite, then figure out a way to connect the other phone and transfer the image over...
Whereas on a T610 it's:
1. Select picture.
2. Click "More"
3. Select "Send"
4. Send it.

Hi I'm james and this is my first post. I would like to say something about the nokia "phones" and their IR. It was said earlier that it was useful only for sending contacts. Well, I kept trying all morning but I couldn't send or receive any contacts from my t68i to a nokia 6100. Same situation with the p800. Why do they even bother to put an IR on their phones when it doesn't do a god damn thing? I always laugh when a nokia user comes up to me and asks me how to receive wallpapers and ringtones. Other than MMS, the only way to get new stuff on a nokia is to buy(!) them. 2 euros per ringtone(OMG).

Yes this is a real bad idea, the only thing the IR on my nokia 6100 is good for is sending and recieving business cards!! Why did they not include sending pics and stuff?? Was this so we are forced to either buy them or pay to send them?? Does this not strike people as a bit mean??
Im really pi**ed off about this, shall we make a caampaign to nokia to get them to release a better software version that will allow it???
pm me if you are up for it and i will organise a mass protest...
