It's well known that a picture in the phone uses much more memory than it should. A picture that is 352x288, which is 20k when sent to the computer, uses 55k in the phone.
I think this is due to the fact that SonyEricsson stores a uncompressed picture along with the .jpeg picture in the phone memory. Why? Because it takes a second or two to uncompress a .jpeg, and they don't wanna make the phone look slow.
One trick to free up some memory is to rotate the image one step (with the rotate option). This makes the uncompressed image smaller, and you will save about 9k of memory per image. My test-foto went down from 55k to 46k after doing this.
Wouldn't it be great if SonyEricsson had a setting in the T610 "preview-picture on/off", so if you wanted a faster picture-viewer you could have that, and if you wanted more memory for pictures, you could have that.
That would give you 2.5 times as many pictures in my phone. 55k -> 20k per image.
