I found this in Aftenposten, a reliable Norwegian newspaper, just now.

Økt salg av mobiltelefoner.

Det globale salget av mobiltelefoner øker kraftig.
I andre kvartal i år ble det solgt 118 millioner mobiltelefoner,melder analysebyrået IDC.
Det er en økning på 19 prosent sammenlignet med samme periode i fjor. De nye mobiltelefonene med kamera bidrar i stor grad til økningen. Etter en bemerkelsesverdig suksess i Japan har nå mobiltelefoner med innebygdkamera blitt interessante over hele verden.
Det innebygde kameraet, fargedisplay og subsidierte priser har gitt mobilmarkedet en signifikant vekst i 2003, sier IDC's forskningsanalytiker Ross Sealfon til Jyllands-Posten.
Nokia troner fortsatt alene på toppen med en markedsandelpå 34,6 prosent. Konsernet solgte 40,9 millionermobiltelefoner i andre kvartal i år. På andreplass følger Motorola med 13,4 prosent og Samsung med 10,1 prosent.Sony Ericsson er tilbake på top 5-listen med en markedsandelpå 5,7 prosent. (Aftenpotensnettutgave)

A quick translation...
Camera phones are the main reason for the increase in sales of mobilephones world wide.
In q2 this year 118 million mobile phones were sold, that is 19% more than same period last year.
Built in cameras, colour displays and subsidised prices are the main reasons for this jump in sales and the great sucsess of these phones in Japan seems to have made the rest of the world open their eyes to this new tecnology.
The pecentage, wich I found interesting, you will understand without me repeating them.
But 118 million phones in total! That is one big pile of tecnology!!!

Agreed... lemme join you and JW there

Anyway, the trend is to exchange phones at a faster pace, as more and more advanced models are being released. So we may well see a sharp increas over the coming years as well.... just imagine....
