Hi,

I have been trying to get my T68 working with Cingular WAP in San Francisco for the past few days with no luck at all.

The guy at the store tried my SIM card in one of their phones and had no problem connecting. I try from mine and I always get "Failed" after it dials. I have tried it over and over so I doubt it can always be busy.

I have set up my configuration as found on howardforums.com...

Any ideas?

Cheers

I tried these: http://www.slriv.com/t39mvsCingular.html

It's so frustrating - I went to the Cingular store and got nowhere - the guy said look on the web, I did, set it up, it doesn't work, I went back he said I must have something wrong, but I have it set up EXACTLY as specified here...

Grrrr...

If you are using a phone you did not purchase from Cingular (i.e. T68) you must get them to manually enter your phone number in the WAP database. Normally this is handled with a supported phone that communicates with the WAP server when you signed up and all is well. This is not the case with any unsupported phone as they (the phones) can't communicate with the WAP database as they are unsupported. It may take you a couple of tries to get a technician that is willing to do this for you as they get somewhat anal regarding non-supported phones. Tell them you have a Motorola V60g and it doesn't work. Eventually, they will manually add your number. It should work fine with there. Once I had this done everything has been fine using the same settings you are using. Also, make sure you are using the latest settings. Cingular changed the logon and password sometime in December/January. You can do a search on alt.cellular.cingular and find the latest.

I'm having the same problem with my new T39m in San Mateo. I have regular phone and SMS service, but I'm not sure how to set up the Data account. I have Wireless Internet set up through Cingular and Wireless Window as well. Cingular is far less than helpful. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are the http://www.slriv.com/t39mvsCingular.html settings still valid?

I'm totally frustrated. I called and asked Cingular to enter my number 3 times so far but I still get 'Failed' when attempting to dial the WAP client.

Somebody please help. I'm usually good at these technical things, but I'm really stumped here.

The information contained in the site in which you posted the link are correct and about as simple as it can be. You say that you "asked" Cingular to manually enter your number. Did they say they did it? Did you tell them you had a V60g (they get grumpy when you tell them you have an unsupported phone). If this is all true, I don't know what to tell you. The instructions are pretty much self explanatory. You create a data account. Then you create the WAP account that references the data account and that is all there is to it. Are you sure you are getting reception? I have found that you need at least 2 bars on a T68 to get a WAP connection. Sometimes the system is busy, etc., etc., etc.
