I use an IR adapter on my PC to send the jar & jad files directly to my nokia, it goes ok on the 7650 i just need to open the message recieved to install it, but why cant i send the same files to my 6610?

With series 40 nokias, you cannot send anything (except for contacts) via ir directly. You need to use software. Try either Nokias PC suite, Oxygen phone manager, or Mobi MB. Stupid I know . . .
