Is their a way to get rid of the date and service provider text on the screen as this somewhat crowds the screen and detracts from the picture behind.
I know you can on Samsung phones I was just wondering if you can on SE phones.

No, but this exact questions was a few days back and someone suggested that you could create a theme which has the same colours as those fields so as to mask them.

I saw a suggestion like this ages ago as well. Has anybody done it yet?

Not much sence unless you got a one colored background
would be alot better if you could turn it off.

That is one of the nice things with Siemens that SE really should copy.
You can choose 'no' donīt show time and date and you can choose logo image. I have a transparent .GIF so i have my wallpapers uncluttered on my S55

Theoretically if we use transparent colour for the operator text and time/date, then the text won't show up. Can the Theme Creator software use transparent colour for text? If not, then maybe the software can be modified to incorporate this. What do you think?

I don't see why not, but since it was suggested ages ago and it's still not happened, maybe it's harder than you think.
If you do manage it though, make sure you put it on esato so i can get it on wap, make a nice big topic as well.

There is probably a reason that the option to turn the operator name off isn't available. My guess is that the operators doesn't want that. And making the operators happy is important for the manufacturers.
