Go to http://renegade.w3xs.com/ under Droll Software you got Sman v1.1a download it. It's for free. With this program you can shut down other programs in the P800. It can also do other nice things. Read the manual on the site.

It should be also mentioned that the system takes care of shutting programs down (if memory is getting low, for example). The idea of the user interface and the system is that you should not have to take care of such things at all. If the app is already running, it comes up faster that way.

Of course in some situations you would like to shut down apps yourself, for that there are tools, as others have pointed out.

Yes, the system takes care of shutting down the programs when memory gets too full. It's called "triangle of death".
Running apps uses battery power. So having programs like opera, cam, pictures, jotter etc on all the time. Will definetly empty the memory and battery really fast. So Sman is what people should get.

I have got HandyDay and a app called Quick Start one of them gives me an icon which shows running apps and I can close them or kill them. Is Sman a better way to do this or am I ok doing it as I am. The only thing is I can never close Main [probably thats right] or Phone, Aplications, Bug Me, HandyDay. Should I be killing any of these these to save battery? Thanks.

@Lordmike
i normally always "close all applications" within tracker therefore have only 3 apps running. sometimes when i am composing an sms just before i get to the end of a message BANG, i get a TOD. it does not always happen when i am anyway low on memory but normally when composing an sms, strange.
