> Epmworker is making "heartbeat sound"

After adding my P800 to my Compaq (running on Win XP), I noticed after a whil that my PC was making sounds (like "thump. thumpthump. pause (10 sec), then thump. thumpthump"). Annoying as he**.
Worked my way through the task manager, and noticed that stopping the process "epmwor~.exe" lcated in c:\windows\preftech\ stopped the sound. As far as I can understand, this process is initiated by epmworker.exe.
Anyone familiar with this problem - and how to solve it?
