Hello,
Well i got my p800 rd1 replaced yesterday for something a bit newer in firmware. where i work, i can do that sorta thing
it got to a stage when i got home, that i wish i never had a p800.
i love the phone but the r2f firmware was really bad... that or it was a hardware fault.
anyway im not dissing the phone because id have not got it if it was bad
here are hte problems.
the firmware is r2f. the phone is incredibally slow. that i could handle. but the tod's every hmm 5minutes, the error program closed "messages" "contacts" and every program i had there was unbearable.
then when it failed to wake me up, i was thankful, i set my 6310i nokia on alarm too. i woke up to find the fully charged battery only 4 hours before i went to bed, was drained totally. no apps running in background, not even a screensaver.
now reading almost 40 pages in this forum, the crashes was resolved for someone here who in formatting the memory stick, was solved. i tried the same, and it "seems" to be working but i will be doing a lot of day2day tests on it in a mattert of a few hours. might be ok might not, what im wondering is, what if its the latter, what is wrong with it?
so, problem is, TODs, constant crashing, slow, and possibly change in battery life.
theres also small things, like when i switch it on, it usually in all ericssons "clicks" 3 times to indicate it has found a network, this clicks sometimes 4 sometimes 5 and sometimes 6 times. then with flip closed, if i get a msg, i hit ok, it opens it, and only when i actually go into the message recieved does the backlight turn on.
if anyone knows also where the closest SE service centre is to me, im in middlesex UK area. but thats not too important
well lets see what type of responses i get about this.

i dont have r2f but is it that bad?
Any comments by other users? Does anyone who previously used r1d and upgraded to r2f seen more problems than before?

R2F for me made the fone faster opening/running apps, more stable with less TODs with more extras added in.
I dont run the flip as i find it a waste of the touch screen (but dont want to start another debate on that one - cause i dont care)
but i have found R2F to only be a good thing.
I've even had it reloaded as i was playing with Startup.3gps including sound (half knowing it would knacker) and proper broke it.
but as for the upgrade, i dont have a bad word to say about it...

@akashj
My R2F upgrade has been fine - as reported by others my phone is quicker etc.
Where I had my P800 upgraded I was told that as the upgrade is in real-time from a SE web site, the intstallation can fail (for my phone it did fail a few times). Also, to complicate matters there are 4 updates that are needed (and each update can fail). Are you sure that your upgrade was really successful? Why try to re-installing the firmware again?

thats a good point
well basically, i went to sleep with a fully charged phone and yet again only after a few hours, it was dead.
there is the possibility that it may be a program loaded on there thats doing it. but i think im going to see if thats the case on wednesday when i get a new rd1 revision phone sent over. then compare the two.
it was not running as bad, but i just noticed it crashing again:
program closed
reasib code viewsrv
reason number 11
not saying r2f is BAD, its just bad on this particular unit it seems
it may not have been installed but i think the best thing at this point might be to get a properly working one , who cares if its old rev, then maybe eventually find a service point to upgrade it.

Fortunately my R2F isnt that bad. I did however notice the delay in the backlight turning on. It was almost instantaneous on the original FW.

You people are discussing/complaining about fw upgrades...
In India, it was almost impossible even a few months ago. Fw upgrades were only done in 1 or 2 cities in the entire country!!!!
In my city there are 2 service centres. One of them is almost always out of order and say that they "unable to receive handsets for repair at this time". The other one has only recently started doing fw upgrades.
Btw, I got mine upgraded to R2F and its working fine for me. I didn't notice any improvement in standby time though.

looks like i will stick with R2D, i only had about 6 TOD's since i got it 3 months ago, mainly crashes when composing SMS. still love her too much with all these TOD's to get rid of it.
