> P800 doesn't sync ?!
Bookmark topic
HI,
I have a P800 that refuses to sync anymore (via USB port). I use WinXP Pro and downloaded and installed the latest P800 Communications Suite Software for WinXP Pro from the
www.sonyericsson.com website (about 37.7 MB) but to no avail. I also tried re-installing the USB drivers (ie. uninstalling PSC-200 USB drivers first with the cradle unplugged and reinserted the cable when it asks for drivers etc..).
When I double-click on the 'Phone Connection Link' on the system tray, it says the USB connection is 'Connecting' but just gets stuck there forever. (other Infra Red and Cable are un-checked)
(When I say 'anymore' above, I mean to say that it DID work only the first time ! Not anymore....)
Also, another queer thing happens that I've got to mention - everytime I try installing the communicaitons suite software (yes - I've been stuck in the viscious install/uninstall-restart cycle for sometime now trying to troubleshoot this problem!) - it says some other software was recently installed/uninstalled and that I'd have to restart the PC - well I was fooled into restarting the first time - but it still gave the same warning even after restarting - thereafter I just bypass the message and say - "Install anyway"
HELP !!!

I seem to remember that there is a setting for the usb port to emulate a COM port, if you have something using the same port (modems sometimes use COM2) then the PC cannot talk to the phone through docking station.
The USB is really a serial COM port in disguise.

Thanks for the reply....
I forgot to mention - I have an HP Jornada Palmtop that Syncs properly even now - so I doubt if it has anything to do with the USB port settings. (also - there are no dreaded 'question mark' or 'red cross' icons on my device manager either). I also have an ZyXel ADSL USB modem + a HP PSC 2210 connected to the PC - but they all still work fine. I've tried unplugging ALL USB devices from PC but still to no avail......

I've had synching problems from day 1 of having my P800, using WinXP. I had got to a stage where it worked reasonably well (not well enough tho), as soon as i got a prompt to backup i know it was connected ok, otherwise the "Phone Connection Link" would say i was connected when i wasnt. In the last few weeks it has not worked at all. (I have no virus software running, and have tried killing all other processes when installing)
Done the uninstall re-install cycle (PC-Suite/USB drivers) a few times also, got a replacement phone - still no joy.
Thought the cradle might be at fault but Orange said that it was an accessory so wouldn't replace it under insurance. I use a Bluetooth adapter too which has worked b4, but now still no joy same problem.....grrrr.
Installed the latest phone software on my Win98 installation - that started working but would not finish a restore, the phone connection would suddenly dissapear mid-restore.
Ended up installing a fresh copy Windows XP and finally things now work ok. What a freakin pain this has all been, especially since i've been caught out by my phone deciding to reset itself twice in a couple of months and having no way to restore.
I notice that on my fresh install of the PC Suite on XP, it works slightly differently, i.e. the menus have changed and the My P800 icon now appears in the system tray when connected, I didnt see this difference when reinstalled the same version of PC-Suite on my old XP, makes me think the un-install was not removing the older PC-Suite software??
Anyway, my last resort worked, after that i guess i woulda binned the PC and got a new one. Good luck!

Hi,
Just FYI, I've tried this on 2 of my office PCs too (one uses Windows 2000 Basic Server and the other Windows 2000 Professional) and exact same problem on both !
My head's reeling now..... i've also tried enabling ALL those unwanted services and tried sync'ing but nope.....
I guess I have to do that dreaded 4 hour re-install.......
I'm just wondering how come Sony-Ericsson being such a big and professional company - can actually afford to place it's customers in such a position - they didn't even respond to my copy-paste of my first post above that i sent to them about 4 days ago...

With WinXP and 2000(i think) there is the option to allow windows to turn off a usb device to save power. Could it be that seeing as the cradle is inactive a lot of the time that windows has turned it off?

Can someone please solve this problem for me. SE support can't work it out. It sems to be close to the discussion here.
I am running the latest firmware and want to sync to Lotus Notes release 5.0.9 and have tried everything but still get the same failure message in a dialog box.
NETWORK PROBLEMS PREVENT SYNC STATION TO PROCEED
then SYNCHRONIZATION FAILED
Since the syncronization software has this dialog box you would have thought they could explain why it is thrown up. I have tried with Bluetooth and the cradle with the same result. Bluetooth works fine to download software to the phone and transfer photos and backup etc so it is not a problem with Bluetooth. IT must be something to do with the way my XP machine is configured or with Lotus notes---since I bought the P800 because it was supposed to sync with Lotus notes I am screwed. Hopefully someone out there has seen this dialogue before and can help-- I Would be really grateful.
thanks

ha ha ha i had that problem as well but sorted it out in about 20 mins. didnt think any one else was as stupid as me to make thaqt mistake.
I discovered theese faults as the most common reasons for sync problems.
1. Phone set to modem not PC
2. USB connected but drivers for USB sync cable not installed. (plug in usb sync craddle and with the pc suite CD on the PC click install device from CD then let instasll.)
3. Clean the connectors at bottom of p800 and sync craddle to solve bad connection problem.
4. Make sutre Infrared and all other avaliable USB ports are uncheked besides the one which is connected to the p800
4. If p800 appears to be connecting for some time in the link status monitor jiggle the p800 if this fails uncheck the USB com port thing in the phone monitor window take the p800 of the cradle check the USB port and insert p800 in to the cradle once again.
theese were all the issues i have encountered whilst synching. Been problem free for some time now. (dont even have the latest drivers for the office suite.)
