i have a t68i and a powerbook with bluetooth internally. how can i set up a dial up connection so i can dial the internet thru gsm, NOT through gprs. i have unlimited weekend minutes and a dial up account which i would like to be able to use to dial up to the internet.

Set-up a dial-up account as normal in the Network Preference Pane, but choose "Bluetooth Modem" from the pop-up menu. You do realise that it will be very slow (9600 bps) doing it this way rather than GPRS?
You'll probably also need the modem scripts from

I've connected a Pismo G3 through iR at 28k8bit/s.
Why wouldn't it be possible to use BT at that rate?

It's not the speed of the IR or Bluetooth connection between phone and computer, it's the speed of the dial-up connection from the phone out.
I think GSM networks only support analogue data connections up to 9600baud.

Would this count for all GSM networks or could a newer 1800 Mhz network be faster than an old 900 mhz?
And why does my phone have the option of connecting at 28k8 if it can't use it?

1800MHZ is the same speed as 900MHZ, its just the frequencies thats different.
dont know why the phone has that option to be honest.

I'll confirm that it won't go much higher than 9600. When you do connect, make sure you use opera and disable images/java/java script and stylesheets. You'll get on much faster that way.
