First of all, for anyone living in NOTTINGHAM, the Carphone Warehouse Store in situated in Listergate will update your phone software for free providing u prove that it is in warrenty.
Secondly I need some advice please. Do you think it is ok going to a Carphone warehouse instead of a SE service centre? Also my firmware is R1A (the old stuff) what is the latest firmware out today? is it still R1L?
Cheers

As far as I know it's still R1L yeah, and said CPW is meant to be getting that software in today for the T610.

I'd just like to point out that having spoken to SE... carphone warehouse IS NOT A RECOMMENDED DEALER and they adviced me NOT to go there. Instead they pointed me in the direction of one of their AUTHORISED dealers.
They said to me that if I go to CPW to get my software upgrade and if something went wrong they would not be responsible. CPW don't actually get their upgrades from SE directly, so I don't know where the software is coming from.
I got mine done in tottenham and was happy with the quick reliable service and have had no problems with my R1L software.

@anonymous...
Tottenham eh, thats my neck of the woods...
were exactly did u get the upgrade, next to the cash convertors on the high street!
I was gonna take my phone to some little shop called mobile communications (opposite the main barber shop there) - to sort my phone out when I spilt lemon Juice on it...
but
was a bit concerned if I took my T610 into them to be repaired, id probably end up comin back out of the shop with a Nokia 3310! - LOL

The above mentioned shop is probably RS Electronics. That's where I got my

T610 software upgraded. Address is 815 High Road, Tottenham, N17 8ER. Phone no. 0208 8081498.
I can recommend them too, brilliant service, only 20 minutes to upgrade software.

Yes the shop I went to was RS electrics. They change T610 facias too for about £35 so if your sick of your silver casing you can get the blue or red one put on to your phone instead. My upgrade took about 45 minutes for two phones.
Changes I've noticed with R1L:
1.Boots up quicker after the first time you switch it on. R1A took forever.
2.Signal bar has changed colour, but still fluctuates however slightly better reception.
3.Browsing menu's is a bit quicker as is typing SMS messages.
4.Crackling on a mated R1A phone stopped after the upgrade
5. Enabled camera shortcutsnwhen in camera mode by pressing buttons 1 to 4
6. Phone hasn't crashed.
