> Removing dust under p800 screen
Bookmark topic
I've had my p800 less than a week and I already have dust under the screen! One piece is about 5mm and really catches the light, its really annoying!
Does anyone know if a service centre will be able to remove it for me and if it will be free?
I was going to go to D.V.H Communications tomorrow to ask them to remove it and get my software updated, has anyone been here before and got dust removed?
Thanks
Simon

DVH Communications closed down over a month ago. Try CPW Colliers Wood.

I usually go to CPW Cannon Street to get my software updated, just wasn't sure if CPW would remove the dust, does anyone know if they can?
Cheers,

Most of the PDA vendors will replace PDAs with this problem (Compaq had it with their earlier iPAQs and HP had it with the some Jornada 560s). It's a problem with poor sealing of the LCD panel unit with the touch screen mounted on top of it.
I think there is a case for a replacement since if they do clear the dust, it will be back again in a couple of months, and I am sure you don't want to do this regularly, nor do you want this problem to extend beyond the warranty.
I've contacted SonyEricsson support to ask what their policy is... If you have any luck tomorrow, please tell us what happens.

You should call SonyEricsson directly about this. I got my phone 2-3 months ago. I started seeing dust under the screen and call them directly. They said they have a solution for this and ask me the send the phone in. The turn around time is 3-5 days (excluding transit time). I sent it in end of last week... so I'm still waiting for my phone...and using a unlocked Tmobile Sidekick in the mean time...ugh. But definitely call them.
I'm in the US btw. Support might be different in other countries.
If they say no, just make a big fuss about it.

I just rang Sony Ericsson and they said they do have a way of removing the dust but its not covered under warranty! They told me to post the phone to a company called Celestica and I'd have to pay for it!
Has anyone else been told this or know how I can get it done for free?
Cheers,
Simon

I had mine with dust/dead pixels, changed for fee under warranty from a se service center, after fighting my way thru.
- the 1st time i took it for an upgrade of firmware, i mentioned the issue, they ignored it and gave it back to me like it was with the new firmware.
-2nd time they told me, it has to be replaced, but i have to pay, so i took the phone back and went home.
-getting irritated with the dust i took it to them the 3rd time, they kept it for a day and said, the dead pixels are because i have used the flip and pressed the button hard thats why there is no warranty, so again i have to pay. i brought it back and kept quiet.
-A week later, i noticed that there was a dead pixel, above the flip part, so i went to them AGAIN, and told them the flip doesnt press there, how come there is a dot???
Finally they got sick of me, kept it for a day and replaced it for free under warranty

Got it and stuck a overlay to it from that day.

Sounds like I'll have a tough time then! Mine is clearly visible as dust, its like a little strand, is dust any better than a dead pixel?
I'll try a few service centres, but se told me it wasnt covered under warranty?
I need get to get rid of it, its awful looking!

Holy crap.
I just got my phone back....
EXACTLY AS I SENT IT IN! NO FIRMWARE UPDATES. NO SCREEN CLEANING. NO REPLACEMENT. NOTHING!
What the...
They just clean the exterior of the phone, flash the phone with the SAME version of the software that I had (R2D), erased my memory. And SENT IT BACK!
AARRGGHH!!!!
