Hey guys, been browsing around here for a long while now. Just managed to have a reason to signup and post something.

I've begun 'Operation BLACK P800'.

Here I have taken the P800 apart:

And here I've sprayed all the bits with Ford Pearlescent Black spray paint from Halfords and coated it with Halfords Clear Coat:

I jumped the gun a little and banged these pictures up, whilst the whole thing is still drying. It will take another 16 odd hours, so sometime tomorrow I will bang up the pics of the finished product.

Let me know what you guys think of this operation so far.
I couldnt give a toss about Sony warranty, so its not a problem doing this. But I cant wait to start T-cutting and polishing it in the near future when I get bored. lol

Brave? not really, just fearless and stupid.

It took me about 3 complete spirit rub downs and starts to get the finish I was looking for.

Plus its also my first time with spray cans, a lot of good tips on the net.

About 4 layers of base coat, dried 15 minutes apart, and then 3 layers of clear coat dried 10 minutes apart.

Now the whole thing is just settling, which takes ages for the layers to all harden.

But once all done, the paint will be as rock as the paint on a car. Good thing is, because of the layered clear coat, I can use Autoglym Super Resin polish in the future when ever i get a little scratch etc., which you cant really do on normal glazed plastic.

I cant wait either, keep running to the kitchen to look at it drying under a cold air hairdryer.
But rules are, hands off till tomorrow late afternoon. The mrs is keeping a close eye on me lol.

Thats is gonna look mint if it works and the paint adheres well to the plastic.

Maybe you should have used a silver spray paint on the blue side bits to give it that extra cool look.

Did you mask up the logo? and the bit where it says sony ericsson?

Make sure not to get any dust on to the sticky paint that would be sooooo annoying.

Will you be having the problem on the bezel where there will be a raised section from where it said orange?

Good luck man! Was it hard to take apart?

I can't wait to see the finished result, though I must admit that seeing your P800 lying there in bits did bring a tear to my eye .. sob sob:P

No dust at all

Sprayed it outside in the garden.

The base coats have hidden the orange logo.
But I am in the process of getting a nice decal designed, so I can place it in its place.

The sony logo at the rear was taken off, and will be re-applied when i assemble it back together.

Taking it apart was simple as anything. Just have to be careful with the little hinges plotted around on the inside of the case.

I will be later on, spraying the base station too, but will leave that for another day, already missing the phone too much.

While I'm here off-topic, I have been playing around with Metroworks Codewarrior and the Symbian SDK.
I'm going to start developing some apps for this baby.

What kinda apps would you guys love to see on the P800?
