Hi guys, I just bought my t610 today and I started filling with pics and stuff when I noticed that the memory was draining fast. I decided to delete some pics when I noticed that a pic that is 5kb took up about 35kb of space. Why is that? Is it normal? My firmware is R1A081. I'm gonna get it flashed soon though.

It seems the phone keeps the original picture, and a raw format version of it for performance in displaying it.
It is the same in the latest firmware and probably will always be this way in the T610.

The problem with the T610 is that it has a higher resolution and more colour depth than the T68i and so requires more power to display the pics quickly. I guess they just didn't put a powerful enough processor in the T610, presumably preferring power savings instead.

When the file is decompressed on the phone, it will still take up the same ammount of space.

Doesn't this work by actually removing content from the picture that would not be noticed by the naked eye? If I am correct then it is unlikely that the T610 will put that content back because it won't know about it.
This program cannot be doing anything more than standard jpeg compression otherwise other programs would not be able to open the files it produces. So if it can make the files smaller this MUST be what it is doing?
What do you think? Maybe worth a try when I get some time.

The problem is that when the file is decompressed, it's processed as a bitmap (pixel for pixel), so it doesn't actually matter how much information has been removed. You can try it on the PC. Take a bitmap, convert it to 1 High quality jpeg (large file) and 1 low quality jpeg (small file). Then, convert both back to bmp. As long as dimentions havn't changed both files will be back to original size. T610 probably uses some high speed lossless compression to store the "raw" version of the file, which will explain small size variations...

yeah I agree with that but what about my thoughts on the fact that it can make jpeg smaller than other software which in my opinion can only come from actually removing content (i.e. not just compressing) the file?
I remember a program a long time ago that did this for BMP files but what it removed was just not noticeable to the eye so therefore the quality was not (apparantly) lost but the files were considerably smaller.
