Please don't think I'm just in a T610 bashing mood, but just letting you know my feelings at the moment.
Had my T610 for a few days now, and went from Loving it as I was buying it, to hating it when I 1st played with it. Back to loving it again, and now having SOME issues again.
I guess It's annoying me how it's ALMOST there on some issues.....
Lack of any sort of address book (for no reason)
Limited choise of message alert tones (for no good reason)
Camera a bit low res (but ok, can live with that)
Volume levels seem to have to be set to maximum on everything just to be usable.
But the real killer issue for me (will probably sound silly to you) is the following:
On a ye'olde Nokia (for example) you get a sms message (which you may not notice at the time) but when you are passing and glimpse at your phone you can see on screen "NEW MESSAGE" on the screen.
This is especially useful for me (and millions others) who may not actually be standing/sitting by their mobile all day.
However, with the T610 you get a message. The 1st issue is the message tone would not be as loud or last as long as on say a nokia (got knows why you not just choose your own polyphonic tone but that's a side issue)
Anyway, as I said, when the sms message appears on the T610 it gives a nice display telling you new message arrived.
If you don't see this though after a few moments the screen will go black, back to the "can't see the dam clock!" display and you will have press a key or joystick to wake the phone up to see if there is a message or not.
So for me, I end up walking past my phone, and having to press a button on it, perhaps 10 or 20 times a day, just on the off chance that I may have a important message.
As I work in enginnering I will have dirty hands so that means hands need a wipe/clean as many times (as don't want to get phone dirty)
This is bloody stupid scenario....
It's blindingy obvious that as well as showing the time (on the screen saver) there needs to also be some sort of symbol displayed (would take no extra power as could be the same darkness as the time) on the screen that shows you have recieved a message.
Perhaps the letters SMS or MESSAGE or something....
This is such a obvious irritation. Even someone else at work said it was annoying how you need to pic up the phone and activate it just to check if you have a message.
If it annoys me, it must annoy others.
I don't suppose it's even worth saying anything to SonyEriccson about this, but it seems daft how they missed something so basic.
Comments?
Is there a way around this I'm missing ?

Actually, two of the reasons that made me fall in love with my S55 coming from t68i, was the Address book and the fact that you see immediately on the screen, not only that you have missed something but actually if itīs a call, SMS or alarm!
Also i can choose whatever tune i want for SMS-alert, the only fly in the soup is the bleeding "Acoustic shock protection" making my Homer Simpson SMS-alert go "OE" instead of "DOE!"
I fixed that by inserting 2 seconds of silence in the beginning of the tune though.
Bottom line: I donīt get how hard it can be to rectify at least the power save/message notification issue..

Unfortunately mate there is no way around it. I too appreciate we're your coming from as Im constantly waking up my t610 to see if i have missed any calls or recieved any messages.
Someone devised a ring tone where the phone just vibrates with no sound and the red flashing LED in the centre lights up with the display until the call is answered or rejected. If the SMS tones were fully customisable someone could have devised an alert where the red LED flashes in the same manner. So if the phone went to sleep the LED would still flash notifying you of a txt message. Kewl idea me thinx but unfortunately the SMS tones are fixed to 6 options.

There is an red LED light that appears in the centre of the joystick ONLY when the phone is off and on charge.
Someone has managed to use the Red LED as a flashing feature as part of a silent vibrate only ringtone.

Agree with u!! I miss this too, T65 had it good. Now i cant tell when i glampse at phone ig i have missed calls. I am sure they will fix that with next SW release. Maybe red blinking led (whem i have sms or calls missed) or clock will turn into somethinh more usefull

It is not hard to do, just SE must hear it
!!
I hope to see led though, display is not wisible when backlight is off.

What puzzles me though is just how this (and other) glaringly obvious things are not sorted out from day one.
hey, I borrowed my mates T610 before I got mine, and noticed this issue within about 1/2 a hour of playing with the thing ?
How many committee meetings and product testing groups did they go through when they were designing the thing.
It just baffles me how they can spend so much time on some fancy things that many people would never use much, and totally miss other things that are so blindingly obvious.........
Here's another suggestion.
Take the gimmicy music DJ composer away which you may only fiddle with once or twice and replace it with a useful proper address book which millions of users may use every day.
Why have a icon on the screen which you click on to start the camera, when you have a hardware button on the side of the phone which does exactly the same thing.
(Same comment goes for the browser and the button on the right hand side)
Reprogrammable buttons please ?
As said in my 1st post, why restrict users to the companies very limited choise of message alert tones ? I mean they must have sat down and decided to limit you to them. I don't get why anyone would sit down and say, ohhh, this is a good idea, will won't let users choose their own tones.....
Sorry if I sound like I'm on a downer on the phone. I'm not really. It just pisses me off a bit (a lot) when you have something which is so very near to being an almost perfect product, and you have a bunch of businessmen sitting round a table making some bloody idiotic desicions that are spoiling a product which could be improved so very very easily in software.
I don't suppose we will ever get a address book.
I did wonder if they are afraid they may damage P800 sales if the T610 was too good and satified most peoples needs.
But PLEASE PLEASE if you are listening (anyone) along with the clock (which you can just about see) can you put some indicatio on the screen (or somewhere) to tell us that we have missed a message or call.
I don't want to keep having to press my phone to activate it 20, 30 or more times a day just to check.
Buy the Way....... Does the P800 also suffer from this issue ?

This makes me think that the T610 was designed this way so that we would all go out and buy their new models straight away hoping that these issues are fixed.
Good business I think.
