> Who's got an HCA-20 car kti?
Bookmark topic
I've just installed one in my Astra, in direct replacement for a Cark-91, which worked perferctly. The HCA-20, by comparison is SHlTE.
I've routed all the cabling along the same paths as the previous install, but notice the following:
- speaker buzzes and clicks all the time.
- terrible call quality, loads of interference
- music mute doesn't work (line is +4.5v standby and +1.3v in call)
Any got experience of this unit? This is clearly not acceptable and I can't think it's anything but a faulty control box - any suggestions anyone?
Cheers,
Alex

its difficult to tell from something like this how competent you are as an electrician, as thats normally where problems arise.
However from the way you're being so specific, id guess you'd either overlooked something simple for which you'll kick yourself, or more likely in that you're right - its a faulty pcb.

Thanks for the reply - it's hardly rocket science though is it. With only four connections to make it's hard to think there may be something to overlook, though I did remove and re-fit the same from scratch just to satisfy myself it was done right.

I just installed the HCA-20 in my Golf about a week ago. I didn't run into these or any other problems. The call quality is better than any other car kit I've had, music mute works nicely and no buzzes or clicks. I had mine installed at VW so maybe you should take yours to your dealer? They did an excellent job - very clean, nothing showing, nothing shaking and great quality.

I use this HF more than 2 years - I bought it for R520, after that I changed connection cable and holder for T68 and this spring i changed holder for P800.
I never had described problems. I have this HF set in second car, both instalation was made by authorised Ericsson service center. Because in my current car i have HF connected directly to car speakers - not to included HF speaker - I have superior sound quality.

If anyone reading this could put a multimeter across the music mute line and ground on their HCA-20 and let me know what voltage you get in standby and in call I'd be grateful.
-edit-
The mute line is yellow

Sorry all - I was referring to the HCB-30 - the Bluetooth car kit. This is the one I got and installed in my car last week, not the HCA-20 - I had the models mixed up

Check you radio for mute compatibility.
I have my P800 with HCA-20, and previously had it with T68i, perfect quality, and mute OK on my Blaupunkt Radio.
May be a defective HCA-20 unit.

How, exactly? It works fine with a Nokia kit. Have you managed to locate a list of supported units from SE?
SE seem to use their lack of published compatibility listing as a blanket get-out clause for non-conformance issues. It would seem utterly ridiculous for any car audio device to operate a switching device that isn't 0v/+12v - every single other device I've had is switched in this way - ie power antenna, amp, signal processor, immobilisers etc.
