Hi all...

I have a P800 (R2D) that I'm trying to get to work with T-Mobile Picture Messaging (MMS). I used the MMS configurator from SE's site to get the settings. However, when I try to send an MMS, I get an "error connecting to server" message at about 94%. I can receive MMS fine from a T-Mobile user. I just can't send. I have a T68i and I can send/receive MMS with no problems.

I spoke with T-Mobile's Level III support and he mentioned that in the T68i (under WAP profiles), there's a Data Mode option that's either set to Connection Oriented or Connection Less. I can't find this option on the P800. We both believe this might be the cause of my problem.

Is there an equivalent setting for Data Mode in the P800? Or better yet, anybody here get their P800's MMS to work with T-Mobile?

Thanks for the help...

Ron

The setting is in your wap profile and should be set to port 9201. This message was posted from a Nokia

Edited because I misspelled servlets in the MMSC.

Hi Ron

I have the same problem that you describe but only on messages that are larger than roughly 90kb. I've tried to send 5 second video clips but failed at 94% over and over again. This is the message I got back from T-Mobile:
“When trying to send video recording, you may need to by-pass sending these MP4 files via MMS and send they as e-mail attachments from your configured mailbox on your P800. We are not used to seeing large sized files across MMS, so you may have more success using the mailbox with file attachments.”

The only difference in configuration that I can tell is the following:

Enable PPP extensions: Checked

Under WAP accounts I use my regular GPRS Internet account (unlimited T-Mobile GPRS) for access and not the MMS Internet account. I also use wap as username and password.

Thanks for the reply.

All of the MMS I tried to send was less than 50KB. I even tried to send a 1KB message. No go. I also tried modifying my settings to conform to yours to no avail.

I'm still in contact with Level III support and he has taken the case to Sony Ericsson. Hopefully this can be resolved but I'm not holding my breath.

Anybody else have any suggestions?

Cheers...

Here is a link to my tutorial on setting up your P800 for use on T-Mobile USA. Follow it and you should have no problems with your MMS feature as long as you have a WAP account. MP4's from the camcoder program are not supported by T-Mobile and will not be transferred via MMS. You have to email those clips.

Also, MMS on T-Mobile only supports 100kb max on data transfers.

Bengalboy,

I checked your link. Looks great and very informative.

I know the settings are for T-Mobile in Alabama (I live in Chicago), but I have some questions:

1) Is internet2 still in use? I use the typical GPRS settings sent to me from SE's WAP configurator on the unlimited GRPS plan with no problems on Internet browsing. Of course, our settings could be different because of our location so this is more for curiosity's sake.

2) On the WAP config, I noticed that you use your phone number as opposed to blank or wap. Is the password the one you give the rep when you sign up for service? Or is it one you get when you sign up to T-Zones?

The weird thing about my issue is that the T-mobile Level III rep pretty much verified my settings from above as correct. I'm not saying your settings are wrong, it's just weird that they don't have these settings.

Can I forward your link to the T-mobile rep for review?

Thanks much for the help.

Cheers...

Internet2 or internet3 is a GPRS account as opposed to WAP accounts. Whether it is 2 or 3 depends on your location in the country. As for the settings, they will work if properly input on the T-Mobile network if you are signed up for the proper account. The password is the one I got when signing up for service back when it was Powertel, but, I used it when logging in to T-Zones, so if you have a different password for your account from T-Zones, I would recommend you use the password for your account first.

As for the techs at T-Mobile, I have found that it is hit or miss getting someone that knows what they are doing, especially since the P800 is not supported. I certainly don't mind if you send him the link to my tutorial. If you need any personal help you can PM me and I will give you my phone number. I have set people up very quickly in the past.

What is the format of the phone number you have stored? If it is +1 (xxx) xxx-xxx try deleting the non-numeric characters. MMS works okay for me then.

Yup, that's it. If you enter (or edit) your phone numbers in Outlook, it seems to add the ( ) - to it. Edit the numbers on your phone, remove them, and MMS works like a charm. I tried to find Outlook settings to change this, but no success.

Strangely enough this isn't a problem when sending SMS - only MMS.

Good luck,

Sven
