yes and if you look for the question "Is it possible to get rid of those ugly Voda Icons?" in the Answers to the most common questions on Esato Forums (FAQ style) you will find an answer or two!

Use the 13 secs trick. (On your own risk) This message was posted from a T300

No, the 13 second trick does not remove these vodafone icons.

The 13 second trick is used on some models to get rid of pictures, themes, etc that cannot normally be deleted because you get the message that 'predefined items cannot be deleted'.

The 13 second trick does not have any effect on branding customisations.

Indeed most people report that the 13 second trick actually makes no difference on the T610 when compared to a normal master reset since you can delete all but two small pictures anyway.

masseur,

I bought an Orange PAYG T610 today for coming Tuesday pick-up from CPW. Apart from paying the network 20 quid for the unlock code, can you suggest where I can get this done and I suppose the Orange welcome note and settings can't be get rid off. Cheers!

Actually I answered that exact same unlock question here a couple of days ago. £15 and done remotely so no need to take your phone anywhere.

In regards to removing the orange welcome note I believe that comes from the SIM doesn't it in which case I doubt there is much you can do while you use that sim.

Not sure what settings you mean so can't help you there although it does sound vaguely familiar so I would suggest a quick search on that one for an answer.

Actually, you don't need to do that even....go to this section of the forum:
Tips and tricks » » TIP: remove T610 vodafone pictures

the 13 second trick doesn't work...the predefined items are still there.

With this though it does work. Takes a bit of time and effort, but it's worth it.

yes. that thread supposedly gets rid of the predefined stuff in the vodafone T610 but this thread is about getting rid of the vodafone desktop icons which that tip will not do. The ONLY way to do that is to get the phone flashed with non vodafone firmware.

Just for your info, you can try to call up the Vodafone operator (if you are billed directly from them) and ask them to unlock your phone.

Even if you have not completed the full term of your 12 month contract they may unlock your phone for £20. If you have completed 12 months then they definitely will unlock, if you ask.

Once your phone is unlocked from Vodafone Live! you can safely get the firmware upgraded to whatever you wish (to a version without the Vodafone Live! icons, WAP settings and Java libraries).
