OK follks I think (and hope!!!) that I now have the definitive answer as to whether or not the P800 can read more than 128MB.
I sent an email to the company - mentioned above - selling these Duos.
Here I have posted my enquiry and their response:

Subject: Product queries - Memory Stick Duos - 512MB - Sony Ericsson P800
Importance: High
Dear Sir / Madam
Can you please confirm whether or not the Memory Stick Duos that are larger than 128MB will actually work with the Sony Ericsson P800 phone. In particular I would like to know whether the 512MB Duo is compatible?
I know for sure that the larger Duos (256Mb, 512MB) will physically fit but what I need to know and have confirmed is whether the phone will recognise AND be able to use the entire capacity of these larger Duos?
I hope you can be of assistance and I look forward to your reply.
Thanks in advance.

I really dont see why larger duos cant work with p800!!! because the capacity of duos was 128 doesnt mean that larger duos dont work its really naive anyone to think that if duos work with other sony products they work for p800 too!!!

written in the
January 2003 white paper for the P800 was that it supports "up to 128MB"... now since when did anything greater than 128MB arrive? i suppose after January 2003. so there must be a revised white paper (which i think should be in the process now) which states either:
-any size of Memory StickŽ DuoŽ is supported or,
-P800s can handle only up to 128MB DuoŽs (for some reason which i dont know why it wouldnt handle anything greater)

Have you noticed how the P800 is setup with drives. A: C: D: Z: so would it not be sensible to assume that each drive could cope with up to 128mb!
There are so many doubters on this site....

Lets all hope that the phone can cope!

Aaaaaaaargh! This has been discussed sooooo many times I cant believe people still think the new duos will work! Although they look the same on the outside, the new duos are built on different technology inside as they are pro memory sticks. This is because stupid Sony couldnt figure out a way to get any higher capacities out of the original memory stick format. So at the moment, most MS readers (including those in many VAIO computers) are incompatible with the new format. Anyone that tells you otherwise is either lying or doesnt know what theyre talking about!

lets hope people read it twice.
And get them to stop asking the same question over and over again.
the only thing 128 duo has in common with the 512 and 256 duo is the shape and most of the name the innards and technology is totally different.
All you have to do to realise this is to buy a Memory Stick device and try using a Pro card in their it will not work. Nor will any Pro duo work in a p800 when they made the p800 Pro Duo's didnt exisit for god sake!

Can you get a 256 memory stick?
NO!
Can you get a mem stick pro 256?
YES!
No will a Pro Mem Stick work in a Mem Stick device which doesent support PRO?
NO!
Will Sony make mem sticks bigger than 128??
Well if they aint made any thing bigger than 128Mb on one Memory stick i dont see sony making it especially for the Duo.
Our only hope is a dual 128 card giving us 256megs in a switchble format.
